audio jack
yes I believe so, it will take a bit of work though. if your cobalt is anything like my redline I needed to buy the XM brain and wire that in to the stock deck, and then I just spliced up my aux in (ipod) through the xm inputs.
well not sure there. my redline didn't come with xm at all, but the factory head unit comes all set to accept the xm. so I just added the xm. so in other words, your head unit probably already has xm capabilities you would just need the other hardware (antenna, xm brain, wiring)
there was a guy who tapped into xm radio wire to make an audio jack. so find the wires that use xm radio, then tap into it, switch to xm every time you want to use the audio jack and it will play music
exactly what this guy said, but you of course need the additional xm hardware first.
He doesn't need the XM hardware, he just needs to take the car to the dealership to turn the XM capability on in the headunit itself; He doesn't need the XM receiver hardware, just turn the XM input on in the head unit.
hmm, I think you may be mistaken, unless you know something I don't. but from what I can tell in the schematics there is a GMLAN that goes from the xm module to the radio and on this low speed LAN is a signal voltage which tells the head unit that there is an available input on that aux port. this is what enables XM on the unit. unless I'm wrong here?

Ugh, I guess we better figure out what year the OP's car is.
Alright, then check out this thread...

Then the only additional step you'd have to do since you don't have XM is take your car to a dealership (or anybody with a Tech2 tool), and have them activate the XM input on your head unit. You don't need the XM receiver itself for this to work.
Oh and I guess I should add, you'll only be able to enable XM if you have the "Band" and "Src" buttons on your stereo.
