Avic D3 owners
So I've had my avic d3 for a while now. I just recently put my stock radio back in because I was about to trade my car in to get a lnf. I never really noticed it, but the sound is way better with the stock radio in. Now I have my avic d3 back in and it's starting to drive me crazy because the sound quality is lacking. Anyone know what could be causing this?
A few other notes, when adjusting the settings for the sub woofer, it doesn't do anything. So I can't control the bass from my sub. I think it has something to do with the wiring. When I wired it there was only 4 spots. The front right/left speakers, and the back left/right speakers. No spot for the sub. My guess is it's putting way too much bass to the speakers which makes the speakers sound like they have blown when I have the volume relatively loud.

Yea I notice the same thing so I return it it pissed me off the the woofer is left out they told me that you have to add an amp in order to use the sub with the avic I didn't believe them thinking all they wanted was money lol still don't know if its true lol
You don't lose the sub if you just wire in the new head unit into the harness and make sure you use the radio to switch on the AMP. I recently went back to stock because my D3 died and I was thinking how much I miss the D3. I just ordered a new F90BT and should be putting that in soon.
I have the D3 hooked up to the stock Amp and sub and haven't noticed any loss in quality. Actually if anything, I think the system sounds better with the D3 in. However, you cannot use the D3's sub controller with the stock system because the sub is bridged off the rear 6/9's. If you want to be able to use the sub controller than you have to hook up a separate Amp to the Sub. The Stock sub can handle more power than you think so for most purposes it should be fine. However, if you want allot of bass, then you will need to replace the stock sub as well.
there should be a blue wire from the amp right to the deck that control the bass and such.. Least when i had mine hooked up there was positive negative and that blue wire. Can't remember the name of it

I have the D3 and honestly it sounds way better than the stock radio, especially because it has a built-in equalizer, sub is louder as well. What year is your car and what harness do you have it with? If you have the expensive harness you may have to mess around with it to adjust the sound quality, I had the same issue.
*Edit: I saw on you pro that you have an 07. What harness are you using? Also, I believe this may have to do with your sub not working since the cheap harness does not make you sub work.

OK. If you ever noticed, the box (harness) has a little ***, its the potentiometer. This adjusts the volume level and quality that comes from the speakers. I think you turn it clockwise to increase the volume, then it will sound much better. Mess around with it while you're playing somthing on the D3. AS far as the sub problem, if you made the right connections, there should not be any problems. Don't remember how the connections are.

So I just checked the box and there wasn't any kind of *** or anything to adjust. I even poped open the box and looked at the circuit board and nothing. But I tinkered around with the eq settings and I think I made it a little better. For the low section I moved it up just a tad and then moved the mid and high all the way to the top. Seems to sound cleaner. I also faded it to the back speakers slightly so the front speakers aren't as loud as the back

reason why it sounds like **** is the stock head unit has line level outputs like RCA's 1v or so where as the avic has speaker level outputs at 6v. so your getting all kinds of power at low volume and clipping the **** out of the stock amp
regarding sub control the option in the rado controls the power going to the sub rcas. since the stock amp not only doens't have rcas but uses 2 channels for both the sub and 6X9s. So the only way to have sub conrol is with an aftermarket amp.
Oh and yes turning up the bass cranks it on all the door speakers. Do me a favor and youll thank me afterwards. Go in the settings and get the eq back to flat. Leave the bass at 0 put the mid at +2 or so and the tweet at +2 or +4. then turn the high pass filter off. Until u get an aftermarket sub amp you don't want that on.
lastly if you want some better sound you will need an amp bypass. This is usually best accompanied with new door speakers as well but if you buy a crossover for the fronts they can be interfaced. You will also need a small 2 channel amp for the sub (or you can just do a good 5 channel and be done with it) but any of this is going to cost you some money so

Hmm, I'm thinking maybe I have some wiring mixed up or something. There's a noticeable difference in quality. I've been tinkering with the eq settings and no luck. Also the volume is very low. I always have the volume on full blast, 40, and it doesn't satisfy me. On the stock I would have it on 75% volume which would be plenty loud enough. Is there something I missing?
Alright thanks. I never really looked at the box. I'm gonna go look at it right now. The sub isn't a problem, I was just pointing out that the controls for it doesn't work. I wasn't sure if that had any tie in my problem.

The only drawback like you mentioned before is that you cannot use the D3's sub controller. But by adding an aftermarket amp as stated already directly to the sub from the HU you will have control of your sub. And unless you are really into pounding bass, I don't think you will need to replace the stock sub.
