Batt or Alt or Ground

I have a beltronics radar detector rx-65 and yesterday it started screaming at me about overvoltage. So I checked it yesterday using a volt meter and it read 15.7 - 16 volts... (14.5 v is running voltage right?) I have an amp (250 ish watt rms) checked all the grounds made sure nothing was loose but still running high. So now I am wondering if its the voltage regulator in the alt. The voltage of the car when off is 12-13 volts mostly around 12 when I let it sit. So that is normal. How can I check the alternator regulator. Thanks in advance.

Such a small amp shouldn't have killed the alternator right?

no an amp that small shouldnt have killed the alt but who knows... i would check ur voltage with a multi meter because theres a good chance that it went bad in the radar detector. also go to autozone for a battery check
