Best Car Speakers....
I have Diamond in the one Cobalt, and wouldn't do it again, don't get me wrong, I'm happy with them, but if I had to pay any kind of normal price for them, I would buy infinitys over them. THey are only D6 components all around, I'm sure the HEX series are better (or D9), My preference will probably change once I get My JBL's in My car....
(sorry to hijack) I have a 4 channel amp (114 Watts RMS x4 JBL) for my interior speakers and am considering running only 2 fronts instead of 4 corners. Normally I like sound all around, but do you think that the 250 RMS that I will get bridged to my fronts will be a better set up then 114 RMS all around? thanks for any help./end Hijack/

I heard a system that had only front components (Focal) and a JL 8W7 sub and it sounded pretty good. However, the front stage was painfully loud because he had to amp the crap out of the fronts to make up for the lack of sound from the rear stage. To me the tweeters were a little overwhelming and the mid-range was so-so. I do recommend setting your fader slightly biased toward the front though.
All the speakers on the list can make an argument for being the best and there are a few that were not mentioned. Focal are German designed speakers and sound really good. JL Audio are good as well as Kenwood, Polk Audio and Boston Acoustics.
Altec Lansing used to make car speakers that were awesome.

Sorry, I will have a 12" sub with 1000 watts RMS in the car too, so Bass isn't an issue. and I am getting away from the 6x9's weather I put speakers in the back or not. If I do put speakers at all 4 corners they will be 6.5" components all around. (JBL GTi608's)
I guess I should listen to a good setup with only front speakers (or I could yank the fuse for the Amp for my rear speakers in the other Car and see how it goes...)

I was thinking about going with an eclipse double din, but they were not XM Nav ready, and the interface for the steering wheel controls was limited. They were also not yet putting in Bluetooth capabilities, but I see that has changed.
I was also looking into the Pioneer digital 5.1 processor, but I didn't want any extra panels and boxes if I didin't need them. I would have to get a seperate headunit type thing and a controler on a cord and have to mount them all somewhere....
Alpine and Infinity.. i've had something from almost every major speaker company out there(even the cheaper knock off companies).. for over all speakers those two i have found to be the .. But you have to take into account that some companies put more stock into certain types of speakers.. but those two have quality in all.. I LOVED MY TYPE R 12's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My T/A is all Polk on the front end and two Fosgate 12" Punch Pro subs (Model SPP-128 w/ the big 156oz. magnets) in the back...

This dude is selling a set as NEW! for $300!!! I am telling you if you have never heard these speakers hit you can not imagine how thunderous and clear they are... I can not believe someone still has a set that has never been used...

As for factory systems, by far the best I have heard is the Mark Levinson 19 speaker system which comes in the Lexus LS 460.
CDT's are good, but i did not find out about them until after I bought my Focals. From what you have listed I voted for Infinity. I used to have some Kappa's in my truck that were very nice for highs.
