Blown speaker?

So I have not had much experience with blown speakers, as I do a good job matching equipment. I have a right front speaker that goes in and out on occasion, usually when it goes out, if I turn the volume up a good bit, it comes back on. Is this likely a Blown speaker? I have checked all connections and they are tight. (Other options are a bad channel on the amp, or a bad RCA Cable or output channel on the Head unit.)

Any ideas?

Thanks.

I have a basic Electonic meter, any way to Test them to know for sure? And when you say check the tinsil leads on the speaker, what am I looking for in particular? just loose?

I am about ready for new speakers and Amps, but would like to put them off for a bit.

if you have a digital multi meter set it to ohms and test the speaker wires at the amp (with them out) should read somewhere around 4 ohms

when i say look at the tinsil leads u will probably need the speaker out but push the speaker out and see what happens. if it looks like something is breaking on the leads then thats the problem

oh do u have a high pass filter? whats it set at?

my high pass on the headunit is set to 180hz I think. the Amp High pass is set to somewhere around 200hz, and the Speakers are a set of Diamond D6 components, with a crossover, but I don't know what its set at. I will take the meter to them though. Thanks.

sounds good i was going to say if u didnt have one set then broken tinsil leads on the speakers is much more probable (before i knew as much as i do know i went thru 4-5 rf FNQ 6.5s for that exact same reason)

test the wires and see what happens... you may have to do it at the crossover or the speakers themselves. now that i think of it im pretty sure testing with a passive crossover inline messes up the impedance. you may also have to pull out the speaker to actually look and play with it

ok, well taking a drive to Florida on Sat. will have to deal with it for a week, but then I can take a better look at them. I was thinking about taking a Infinity kappa (perfect? refrence? which ever is the best one Infinity makes are in the cav) pair out of the Cavalier and transporting them in the cobalt.
