So I just bought the pioneer 900bft on blowout sale from Circuit City. I went today to see how much it would cost to install it and their installation Dept. was closed for the day. So me being pumped to get it installed went to Best Buy to see what they would charge. They ended up telling it would cost like $200 just for the install not including parts just because the antenna was external. So I'm thinking of installing it myself, I've hooked up my fair share of systems just nothing really with video and such. Anyone know of a decent place to get the harness (with onstar)and dash kit. Is it a pain in the ass to set these up?

07+ Cobalt's need the Chrysler antenna adapter

Metra = 95-3302

 

Your going to need to do a video bypass in order to be able to watch the screen while driving.
On some brands its a easy as grounding out the ebrake wire but on the Pioneers its a bit tricky.
Go to Avic411 and go into the Other navigation systems section they should have theinfo on how to do it there.

For a dash kit your going to need the Metra 95-3302 and if you want to retain the Onstar in a 06 I believe the GMOS LAN-03 is what you want but I'm not sure if it retains Onstar. If its not that one its the GMOS LAN-04 Check the sticky on aftermarket installs at the top of this section it will give you a answer as to which ones. The parts are about $100 or more just so you know.

Don't forget the ant adapter, the part # is in the sticky as well.

The cobalt is actualy one of the easier cars I have ever put a stereo in, the trim around the CD player is easy to take off and if you use a harness adapter then all the wiring can be done outside of the car, its as easy as connect the dots or follow the color codes

 

retaining onstar in a 05-06 is a bitch and involves a bunch of bullshit if i remember correctly

 

What did you get it for? Even with their bullshit sales I didnt see anything at Circuit City that was priced well, I was checking price online with my Iphone and everything there was more expensive even with their "liquidation" sale.

 

I got all my wiring and dash kit for my 700BT from crutchfield.com. I do not have onstar but they are great with customer support they will show you what you will need for the install.

 

I got it for $650, Not a bad price I felt. I also bought everything to hook it for less than $100, everywhere else the wire harness alone was atleast $125.

 

Alright so I finally got time to try and put my head unit in my car. It actually isn't hard at all. One problem I wired it all up and me being excited to put it in didn't think to make sure the harness plugged in. So is there a difference between the GMOS 4 and the GMOS Lan-4? or should I try the GMOS lan-3. I'm going to try a car audio store across from work tommorrow to see what they say. I tried at circuit city and their computers were down and just tried comparing the plugs to the stock radio and Best Buy just said they didn't know, they only saw antenna adapters available. Funny when I went to have them install it they found it fine but now I just want the harness and there's only an antenna adapter.

OK so I have the right harness now suposevly I wired it all up, Plugged it in and.... NO Sound It plays CDs, and DVDs but there just isn't any sound. I double, triple and even quadrouple checked to make sure it's wired right but still no sound. Any ideas? I'm going to stop by the place where I bought the harness from tommorow after work to see what they think. I swear I'm getting this thing working eventually

 

amp isnt turning on.... its a pioneer system right? did you hook up the blue wire on the cobalt harness
