Box strength?
Box strength?
So I'm looking at building a box, and need to be able to set stuff on it, possibly up to about 350 lbs or to say safe, 400 lbs. Would a 1" plexi box be strong enough? Or what about a 1" MDF box? Thanks for any input. (any other material would be ok with me too, but I need to be able to finish it nicely. (I would really like to use Plexi/Lexan though.
I'm going to be making a box for an extended Cab pickup truck, and need to be able to put atleast one person back there (maybe 2 if the g/f and I want to have some fun) otherwise one person and some gear could = about 300 lbs.
The g/f's family is into all kinds of cool stuff. Her dad does screen printing and vinyl, her grandma does sewing, embroidery, etc...Her uncle owns a plastics company that does alot of Plexi work for companys like Walgreens and stuff (the plexi display things for cards, and the clear bins...)
My mom Air brushes/ is an artist, and my dad is a all around handyman who in his younger days did full size Van conversions, and my best friend is a Mechanic...I did electrical wireing for street lighting controlers and such for a few years. (the boxes on the side of the road that make the street lights go on, all the park lighting controls, and a bunch of other cool wireing stuff.)
So I'm in a unique position to do some cool things, I just have to find the money and the Bowling alley isn't giving it to me...lol

damn i bet you would have a better time adding an alt on then i am... oh hey since you know all about wiring and all that do you have any idea how to get off the connector on the door jam? i need to run some wire to my doors and that thing put me back so bad
oh hey forgot to ask my original question... does this mean your getting a box made completely out of plexi? sorta like a gately audio type thing?

it was a little tricky, you have to squeze and push on a plastic piece at the same time to pop it out of the door, first thing I did was get the boot back from it, then go up the inside of the dash and pop it out.. I'll get you pics of what it looks like (and probably what you'll need to do, although in the yellow car I was able to run speaker wires around the plug.)

Yeah, something like that, but nothing extremely fancy. A single down firing 12" sub in 1" thick plexi box with 2 cubes of airspace (sealed) for my RF Power DVC amd then some shelves for 2 amps and a piece that fits across the top that looks like a recliner (kindof flat and then angles up) that I am going to make a pad for out of 3" memory foam and have it wrapped in something nice with a Bowtie Logo on it.

I think I reached in through the interior and squezed the thin ends and wiggled till it poped out, but I might have had to swivel the white part down first. it actually swings (from the inside towards the outside of the car)
