Calling all those with aftermarket decks....
Calling all those with aftermarket decks....
Hey all.....Im going to be putting an after market deck in my balt soon and im not sure what to expect when im putting it in as far as how much room is in the back for all my RCA plugs....I have the American international dash kit and it does not come with a "spacer" to bring the deck out....anyone out there using the GMK350 kit or anyone that has done a deck and had to cut i would appreciate any input on how much cutting i will have to do......Thank you all in advance for the advice.
I had to notch the plastic on each side behind the radio for my Alpine (one side for RCAs, other for antenna). One of those hot knifes works perfect for it (the hot knife is an attachment for my butane powered portable soldering iron).
I have an LS but I don't think it should be any different in an SS.
thanks guys and girls....
Well looks like most people have had different experiences with the headunit installs so thanks a million for all the responses so far......only 2 weeks to go and the black and silver balt gets its black and silver JL Audio makeover
do you have any pics of that by chance?
Yeah I had to cut the plastic behind my pioneer head-unit so the RCA's would fit nicely. My deck sits flush. People say they have removed the metal bracket behind there. Did you cut it out or did you actually remove it? (unscrew or unclip etc...) I was thinking with the new additions i'm making i'm going to need to wire some more RCA's so that metal bracket may be an issue.
Once I install my new stuff i'll take photos of the cutting i did to remove the plastic backing for everyone to see.

I joined this forum for this exact reason. I couldn't get my deck to fit. I thought about cutting up the back. Instead I just flipped the install kit upside down. Just had to cut a couple of plastic tabs on the kit and screwed it back in upside down. The deck now sits under that metal bracket. Got the idea from installs i've down in ford trucks. The installation kit would always have the pocket over the deck.

My First Deck was a Panasonic, the RCA's were in a dongle, so it fit in fine. The one you see here is a JVC, and the RCA's plug right in the HU itself, so I fliped it around to avoid the bracket.
I found even fliped around the RCA's still pushed up against the bracket bad enough to cause feedback so I hacked it out, no more feed back once it was gone
My newest HU is a JVC 7" screen, But I could not find a double din kit for it, I was never known for my patients so i took a Dremel and a file to a single din kit and made it fit, I'm still waiting on the double din I ordered, I should have just gotten one from ebay. Here how it turn ouit, its pretty gheto, but it fits for now
