Can the stock head unit be a bottleneck for new speakers?
So I only had time to wire in 1 of my Polk DXi650's today into my 2007 Cobalt LS but for some reason I feel like they're pumping out a little less bass than the stock speaker that I still have installed on the left side. It definitely sounds cleaner and more crisp.
Like many people, I had to ghetto rig the speaker onto the door because the bracket from the old speaker doesn't really fit aftermarket ones, so I'm sure there is some sound escaping.
If I really wanna take advantage of the speakers, is there anything I can do? It says the RMS power range is 6-60watts. Am I expecting too much? Thanks!

when u say you had to ghetto rig it what do you mean? also did u keep the stock speaker or trash it? Lastly how committed are you to the project?
I can guarantee that polk speaker doesn't have as much bass as stock. However you may be able to pull out all the stops and get it "close" but since most aftermarket speakers are used with a full aftermarket system or insert excuse here finding a speaker with more bass that stock will never ever happen.... at best you can find some that are close when doing a direct swap. Aftermarket speakers are undoubtedly better then stock other than bass.
