everytime you turn the deck off make sure your switch is in the off position. and then when you pop a movie in try switching the switch from on-off-on. if none of that works, find a better ground man, my p4000 used to do the same thing

This is what pioneer said

Only audio files like .mp3/.wav/.aac/.wma play through the USB. When a CD/DVD with Divx files on it is loaded, the unit can play the video. The supported format is below.

DivX decoding format ............Home Theater Ver. 3, 4, 5.2
(.avi, .divx)

my video files were in .avi and it still wouldn't play...

alright some of you are getting your terms confused.

AVI is the container format.

Divx is the video codec.

Just because it's an AVI doesn't mean it's encoded with the divx encoder.

So you need to make sure you are using the right software to encode it to divx codec, not just an avi file.

So I need to download a divx codec and not a video converter?

if you go to divx.com

You should be able to download a trial of their software.

It should have a divx converter program. Should put your files in the correct format, but I'm not sure what type of files it will allow you to input.

no the divx converter might convert it to AVI, but it still uses the divx codec so your player should play it if it in fact plays divx files.

It's easy to tell if it's in the correct format because it will play on a ps3

Also use a program called mediainfo to make sure it's in divx format.
