Thumbs up CarPC screen installed! (temporarily)

I finally got the screen installed into the bezel (I still have to paint it, but had been worried about it fitting properly, so I decided to do a test fit.

Here it is, and before anyone says it,

I did not reinstall all of the trim yet, because it's a PITA to get it all off.
I just set it into place to get a general idea.

Comments (or criticism or questions) welcome!

It is a custom bezel.

I had planned on doing a how to, but I saw that someone had already done
A good job on one elsewhere.

It is a touchscreen VGA monitor, the of is in the trunk.

I am going to be running dashcommand, riderunner, and
Setup Bluetooth and iguidance GPS.

Not sure I follow the stereo department post,
But I work as a Internet sales manager at a local
Chevy dealer.

Thanks for the kind words, they made me think of a question.

Do any of you guys know where I can get
Some paint that matches the ss/sc trim?

No, it's a 8.4" one I bought off from Ebay.

It works good, but I promised my wife I would finish
wiring in the remote starter/alarm on her Eclipse before
I finished the CarPC, so I have to wait for the final install.

I have time to look for a good matching paint.

I load everything onto flash drives via my desktop pc-MP3's, DIVX flicks, etc.

I have a USB hub that I am building into the left Drivers side dash cubby so that
I can plug them in there to add files.

The PC in the trunk has a DVD drive if I have to load software by disc.

Plus, I have a WIFI adapter going in as well, which I can pull files from my desktop PC
from my driveway.

I plan on putting USB jacks in the cubby, the glovebox (for ipod nano), and on the PS console
cover for if I need to install a USB keyboard or gamepad for when I am stopped somewhere. Come to think of it, I may need to add a pair of jacks for the rear console so that my son can plug in a Xbox 360 controller to play games on his screen in the headrests.

I thought about building a slot load drive into the bezel with the screen, but I realized that I really wouldn't use it much.

Honestly, thinking about it a little more, I think that I might just remove all of the silver trim, including the door switch plates, and paint them all the same color.

After I clear the lot of them, It might keep the switch plates from chipping.

Kill two birds with one stone.

I just have to decide which color to paint them.

I don't know if I should try to get it as close as possible to the stock silver, or
go with a different color. Black and silver are really my only options if I do this,
(my door panels have red inserts)

What do you guys think?

I thought about red, but wanted some contrast on the door panels (the red leather inserts in the door with red painted switch panels)

I like the red look on the dash, but wanted to paint them all (dash and switch plate) the same color.

Oh yeah, EmperorJJ1, I tried to reply to your PM, but it kept saying that your inbox was full.

True... it isn't practical. At All. but that's part of the reason I am doing it, lol

I have settled on either silver or black. I think I'll give it a shot at matching the paint color
(if I nail it I'll post the shade in this thread) first, and if matching paint=fail, I'll do them in textured black and swap out the HVAC.

See if you can find one of the black ac/heater controls and do it all in black. I am not sure what models they came in but I am looking for some aswell.

Does anyone have any pics on the forum of the dash/window switch plates painted black?

I thought the stock Cobalt had black dash inserts, but it's been awhile since I've seen one, so I
could possibly be wrong.
