Cell phone wiring into stock unit

I read a couple posts, one with a good pinout of the radio but it doesnt' say where I need to connect the - from the cell phone unit and how the radio will mute itself. Has anyone installed anything like this in their cobalt?

Looking at a motorola 850 or 1000...its one of their bluetooth hands free kits. I had one in my old car and loved it. I just need to figure out how to wire it into the stock Pioneer radio.

the 1000 has the auto mute feature built in..then u just really hook it up to the seaker lines on the harness..im not sure if the 850 has that. its mostly power and ground wires and then runni the mic...and everything else.

There are a couple connections that need to go into the stereo, one to mute it that looks like it grounds out a connection and 2 wires for the audio. Any idea which pins these can go into?

I really don't think you're going to be able to do it with the stock stereo. The stock stereo has no inputs so how are you going to get the audio out through the car speakers? If the stock stereo had inputs people with ipods could just plug them right in. I think you will need to hook up an FM modulator and wire the cell phone kit to that. Then set that frequency as a preset and when you take a call put the stereo to that frequency.

yes u can...how ususally these devices work they hook directly onto the speaker lines of the car. if it has a auto mute it will mute the speakers cuz its hooked on to them when u get a call.

Oh, so they basically have their own amp to run the speakers and you'd have to cut apart the factory harness so the speaker wires ran through the cell phone interface first.

Pending on the units it can either work the way explained above or the radio actually has an interface bulit in to it, much like the OnStar system. What will happen is the radio has a lead that when grounded it mutes the radio, which the hands-free controller box operates. It then sends the signal through the radio to distribute to the speakers. This works on many cars such as vw, ford, lincoln etc etc. I'm pretty sure the Pioneer stereo has this ability, its just finding the right wires.

the brain basically grounds a lead off of the head unit which is what mutes the stereo. Which pin on the back of the radio will do that?

Also, which wire or wires will take an amplified feed from the brain to distribute throughout its speakers?

I remember reading a post from a while back about the radio pinouts of the pioneer but it didn't seem to make complete sense to me. If I find it again I'll post it up.

Here's some info I found on this board but it doesnt' make COMPLETE sense to me.

From https://www.cobaltss.net/forums/show...ghlight=pinout

the VCIM uses the radio speakers for cellular audio...it does this through Connector1 pin 12 and connector2 pin 24 of the radio

If we can figure out how the onstar system works, we can figure out how to hook up a cell phone.
