Circuit City Cobalt in Joliet Store

Today, I stopped in Circuit City just for the hell of it. I was caught off guard when I saw a Chevy Cobalt inside the store with a custom system in it on display. What in the hell was the first thing that went through my mind. Anyways, it was a ghey Rallysport edition, but the system gave me some ideas. I looked over the car and the dash had a double DIN Eclipse DVD/Nav built in. I wanted a Pioneer AVIC-Z1, but I have never been able to find the double DIN dash kit. The back seats were folded down and an amp rack was built showing an Eclipse and a Kicker amp. The trunk had the inside of the lid custom with a built in LCD and some lights. A cap was on the left side of the trunk with a basic box and some Kicker subs. Anyways, I talked to the guy working there and asked him about that dash kit. He told me the guys that work in the back did all the work on this car and they have one kit back there. Metra makes this kit and I am going back tomorrow to pick it up for $20. I'll give you guys the model # in case anyone wants to go the double DIN route they do make a kit for it.

I have been told by a reputable installer that if you dont put the stock radio under the dash or in the trunk hooked up the cars computer display wont work.

True or false?

False for the Cobalt true for others. If you have Onstar you will lose that but the DIC is in the dash not through the radio.

I am working all day tomorrow but look for pictures on Monday cause I need to go back to buy that kit and post the model # of it. For some reason it is not on Metra's site but I am 100% sure it was a Metra kit.

Is there anyway to get OnStar or the steering wheel controls? How about the stock XM antenna on the roof. I would like to keep alll of these.

I remember seeing a PAC adapter for the steering wheel, not sure if that works.

the pac adapter works for the steering wheel controls, there is a Onstar interface too, I also believe that you can use the stock XM antenae for aftermarket, look it up on here...someone did it.

Pretty sweet screen on the trunk lid. There was actually a slideshow shown on the screen of the entire system building process from start to finish. There is a blue and red neon behind the lid.

They built a block to cover where the factory sub was and mounted a cap. The subs could have been done cooler than just sticking a box in there though.

The double-DIN setup is clean.

The Eclipse unit is $2600 in the store. That setup looks pretty nice although I'd go with the Pioneer and paint the kit to match the other trim in there.

I might steal this idea as well .

Very clean looking trunk.
