Clarification before chaos

I am going to drop in a 2-din DVD head unit in my 06 SS since the Pioneer is dying. The new DVD HU will have 5 pre-amp RCA outputs (LF, RF, LR, RR, Sub). I have some questions on the FAQs and searches that confused me. Things have changed over the years so the story seems to change the more you read heh. Hopefully someone can clarify whether I'm wrong...

1) I'm keeping the 7 oem Pioneer speakers for a while so keeping the stock amp to power them would be easiest. Do I run the pre-amp outs into the stock amp? If so, I'd have to use RCA line converters I assume? I haven't seen the stock amp so not sure what it looks like.

2) I will not lose cruise control functions on the steering wheel with the new HU, right? I don't care about the radio controls but I need my CC for my long drive to work.

Thanks in advance!

Won't lose cruise....that's completely separate.....I'm pretty sure the premium system is all high level input so you won't need to run preouts at all...I'd get in touch with emperorJJ to be 100% sure. The RCA line converters are only if you want to add an aftermarket amplifier to power an aftermarket subwoofer while still retaining the rest of your speakers in the car as well as the factory amplifier.....

correct running high level works just fine. technically it is the best option to run low level but the only plug and play type deal with low level is an expensive module from scosche

The only reason I thought the pre-amp RCAs should be used is I didn't want to run power from the DVD amp into the OEM amp as well because it would likely cause distortion. I know in the 80s and 90s the oem amps and speakers were such poor quality you got a lot of break up and fuzz from that.

So should I just use the typical Metra 70-2103 adapter and run the amped power from the DVD on top of the stock amp?

Yeah, just wire it in as you normally would using the Metra harness. The only thing you need to do differently is connect the remote wire to the factory harness to turn on the factory amp. I don't remember what wire it is in the factory harness though... Blue or Blue/White maybe??

I just read that in the FAQ, it's the blue wire and it needs connected to the pink wire on the aftermarket harness I think. Well that makes my job a whole lot easier just using a wire harness. I'm glad I bought an 06 instead of an 07 heh.

its all about keeping it the same really if the stock hu is low level (which ours is) you want to run low level. high level is 3x the potential so you feed the stock amp much more input and the output is still capped by the specs of the amp. so you either hear the distortion and turn it down a notch and no problems or you crank it up regardless and eventually blow the amp and or speakers

ya if you buy the metra brand harness all you do is connect wires. the remote turn on lines up with the "pink" wire in the harness. other brands might too but im not sure

I'm not much of a fan of blaring music so loud it kills birds or small children so I think I'll be alright with this setup. Thanks JJ!!
