Cobalt Stereo in other vehicles
I respect the fact that you are being generous and offering your radio to your friend for free, but my advice to you would be to keep the stock radio yourself even if you are not using it. You never know if the day comes when you want to sell or trade in your car, you'll want to put the stock radio back in. Tell your friend to spend a few $$$ and get a decent after-market system. He doesn't have to spend allot.
honestly, I think your friend would have more problems trying to fit in the stock cobalt stereo which is made for the cobalt, than buying a after-market system.
No ...it will not work . The last gen trucks were the 1st gen of GMLan electronics , the Cobalt uses the newest CAN based electronics . The truck PCM would never be able to identify the theft-loc signal , so you wouldnt be able to activate it . Unlike the old school theft lock where entered a code into the actual radio . IN ALL the new GM radios ( starting at about the 2005 timeframe) the theft loc is passive and automatically locks when the radio is removed from power . You activate it thru the PCM via a tech2 scan tool . It gets very complicated if u dont understand just how all the modules and data buses work and communicates with one another .
The Cobalt radio really wont work in any other GM car , even though alot of GM radio's look nearly identical . The internal electronics in alot of cases are car line specific .
