Custom 6x9 speaker deck?

Has anyone come out with a custom rear speaker deck? In other words, I'm looking to do a little showing off and would much rather have my 6x9's showing and maybe a spot to mount an amp and some tweets instead of having them hid under that rinky-dink cloth cover. I'm just wondering if anyone has come out with something yet or should I start on my own custom set-up...

yeah I imagine it would...
My buddy just told me he did something where you could see the grille. but he said it was so much trouble he would never do it again.. I figured out the door panels are SO easy to get off and the 5.25" speakers fit right in there. he is gonna do my back deck since he's already done his. I'm stoked. =D

I did this to mount my 6.5's in the back deck lid, but the same can be applied to the 6x9's
In order to avoid the deck sagging and also to sound reduce a bit of the rattle I linned the whole decklid with 2 inch foam, you can get it from the arts and crafts section at walmart for $5-10 dollars.
BTW - The added wieght of the speaker on the deck lid combined with the foam took 95% of the rattle away.

i never publicized my speakers and system that i had in my cars. i even went as far as to lower my volume completely a few blocks from my house so nobody would think i had something good to steal. anyone i ever knew that did somehing like this with quality products got their car broken into. half the trouble is finding the stuff your gonna steal and if your announcing it then you saved them the trouble. putting alpine stickers or jl audio stickers on the car is also a bad idea.

Thats what you get for living in New York (kidding)
All kidding aside he has a point, it was one of the things that I debated about when deciding to do this.
I think we have similar backgrounds
If there going to steal your ride, they going to do it for the $$, so you better believe that there going to there homework, thus they are not going to go though the trouble of it for a set of 6x9's, however if you boom all over town and don't follow the "don't sh*t where you eat" theory then they will, thus turn it down a few bloocks from your house/work/school. in fact don't ever turn it up at school.
Point is , if they know there's a system worth stealing, they will, no matter how carefull you are, they will still catch you sliping. The question is are you going to let them run your life, or are you going to do what you want

My 6x9's are cut into the rear deck. I have a ring between each speaker and the rear deck made out of 2 layers of 3/4" plywood glued together. I made fiberglass pods with a 1.5" hole in the bottom and lined them with Dynamat Xtreme. I used 2.5" bolts and nylock nuts and bolted everything down firmly. I put a bead of silicone between the rear deck and the pods to make sure they wouldn't vibrate against the metal. The pods should help reduce midrange distortion and improve low frequency response. These would really benefit anyone who wants to keep their high-pass crossover frequency set fairly low. I tested these in my friends car by just holding them under his 6x9's and there was a noticable drop in low frequency output and clarity when I pulled them away. He had no high-pass crossover. The pods should also protect the midrange from distorting due to the bass pressure that is produced by your subs.

Thanks. Didn't I post them in the SQ thread?

I did the same thing with my door mids. I added the little hood over the hole when I took the panels off to do my mid bass install because there was moisture inside the pods. We get quite a bit of water inside our doors when it rains hard.

LOL. It sure isn't pretty, but it is fuctional.

Wow thanks for the input. I cut mine into the rear deck as well. I just haven't had time to fill the gap between the deck and the metal underneath so they are just kinda hanging there and not doing a whole lot of good. I was planning on fiberglassing something up so if I do I will work up a how-to when I do it. I'm just gonna construct some type of support or box from MDF and mount it onto the metal underneath and fancy it up... I can't do too much at the moment with it though because it's at the paint shop getting my ground effects and all slapped on and painted.

edit:
And as far as seeing what I have, the windows are tinted 7% all the way around. Unless you cup your hands and put your face to the window you can't really see them...not saying someone wouldn't steal it though haha I don't think window tint would stop them. Thanks again for the input though.
