Custom Stereo Build
Well I decided to take on a task to build my own custom stereo. I have never fiberglassed this much before or pieces this big. So I am just learning as I go.
I dont care for negative comments. constructive critism I dont mind.
This will be a long project as I dont have all the time in the world to do it.
Here is the progress so far.
tape layer
tin foil layer to help release mold
1st layer of fiberglass
The mold released from the car
6 layers later
Front face attached
Braces put in
Ready to be stapled down to complete the shape.
Thats it so far. Will be applying resin to fabric tonight to get shape finished. Then add layers.
Still got the other side of the car to do and the amp rack
NEW EQUIPMENT I decided to use
Rockford Fosgate T1500-1bdcp
Rockford Fosgate T600-4bdcp
Rockford Fosgate Carbon Capacitor

Well since I wasnt even planning to get new amps to keep the cost down. That worked well didnt it
I am keeping my 2 10" Alpine Type R's However I am adding a third Type R to the mix. No there not the BEST subs. but Heck I like them and they sound ok to me. and its cheaper to add a third then buy 3 new kinds.

The passengers side looks really good!
The drivers side kinda loses it for me though. Why do you have them pointing downward and away from the trunk opening? I think you would be much better off just doing 2 symmetrical boxes on each side with a nice amp rack in the middle or something. Ditch the 3rd sub idea, It's not really needed IMO
Still great work for your first time though!

Looks good, I would have routed the out side edges of the sub ring (to round them off) other than that. how much box making experience have you had? and you could never go to thick on the Fiberglass. I would try them out on the ground (with subs installed) and see how much flex the fiber glass has and if you need to strengthen them some more. I don't like any flex in my boxed that's why my box for two 12s with 10,400 watts @ 11.9v, I have a wall thickness of 1.5 of MDF, two layers of boat fiber glass on the inside and then a coat of Rhino Liner on the top.

I have had all of about 4 weeks Fiberglassing experience. I am the type that would rather try myself.
most ppl use strand witch is like 1.5 oz. I have used 6 oz cloth fiberlass through out. it is 7 layers thick. it dont flex at all.
LOL twisted. yours is ghey too after my buddy gets his new house on large land with a HUGE Shed we will be building a small room there to be able to do fiberglassing. and I will be building his.
just got the last layer on the amp rack. now I have to sand all 3 pieces to get ready for body filler. its not a fast process for me as Im busy with other things. but its coming along
