Custom Sub Boxes.

Ok so I've been trying to figure this out for quite a while. I want to have better sounding subs in my trunk but I wanna keep it light and out of the way. To do this I have come to the conclusion that I'm going to have to build custom boxes. I want to pull the stock box, replace it with something that hides a little more and then have a matching box on the opposite side. I will use a pair of Shallow mount 10" subs. My question is has anyone built a box to go in place of the stock box. What dimensions should I be looking for to match the resonance of the sub? Any advice would be helpful.

Im thinking something along these lines for subs.

Yeah I want it to be a little bit louder on the low end but more than anything I want the quality of the sound to be better. I notice that on songs with a lot of bass, if you try to turn it up to jam, the bass begins to break up and it starts to sound bad.

Synopsis: I want it slightly louder on the low end. I want better sound quality. I want to keep it low pro and out of the way.

bump?

Good link that's definitely a way to go about it. I guess fiberglass would be the best way to go but damn that's a whole lot of work and I don't really have any fiberglass experience with it. I wanna keep it kinda stock looking if at all possible.

I want to TRY to stick with shallows to save space but I'd prefer sound quality so if I have to sacrifice space for sound I will. I don't normally keep much in my trunk anyway, but I want to be able to if I ever need to ya know?

oh and remember there isnt anything really "wrong" with the sound quality of the stock sub. the reason it sounds like **** when u have it cranked is because it can no longer get that loud

if u really want to bang. find a DD dealer in memphis that builds custom boxes. tell them to build u a custom ported box for a 1500 8" and it wont take up more space then the 2 10s, it will be cheaper then the 2 10s the only disadvantage is it should be in a normal style square box pointing back. and it will be loud trust me

whoa! dont do anything that link says.. duct tape is the key.. you cover what you want to mould with duct tape.. any big flat surfaces you put mdf boards... when you fiberglass you glass up to the and onto the boards.. when glass is done it peels right off the duct tape and voula! instant mould.. then add a few more layers.. 3 to 4 is far enough( 7 will be bullet proof if you want it to last forever but who keeps a car forever?)... pull mould out and set mdf rings in place with mdf supports at what angles you want subs to be... cover with fleece... soak fleece with resin and let harden... when hard fiberglass over fleece again 3 or 4 layers... last step fiberglass over edeges to make a sealed box then cover with carpet or body fill and paint..
if you want ideas on how you "could do a box in the corner i just posted the box i made.. and can help you with anything if you wanna pm me.. my thread is at the top now.. "my new box" hope that helps..
