Anyone have an idea of a cd+am/fm tuner with motorized screen that would actually connect to this? I don't see many radio screens that support s-video or vga hook ups. Plus, vga to rca always looks horrible. I would love having this for the vcm connector. It would save needing a seperate computer; plus, I would love the attention it got.
It will play dvd, so only need a cd player or tuner with display. Preferably, enough channels for the ss speaker set up with build in sub. I have had not much luck searching for hours. Either you get no vga, or poor audio, or too big to fit both in dash.
If you find a suitable radio with lcd, good audio out, and vga for under or around $400 please post a link. It would be a little too expensive for both otherwise, at least for me.

try looking at the pioneer selection. they have a couple in dash am/fm/cd/dvd/navigation stereos. they might just have something that you are looking for. also kenwood has a nice one. i figure if they have this much technology in them, they MUST have thought about the hookups you need
yeah, they do have it; however, that stuff is usually over $1,000 because they include dvd players etc. With the computer, it would just need lcd and audio. You can get motorized lcd with vga for under $200, but the car would have no audio. Also, the stand alone lcd displays wouldn't hook to the car sound system and would need to hook to a lighter outlet. Assuming, you just got a radio and seperate lcd.
this is the best I have found so far http://www.saveateagle.com/gl701-npc...-V04&ovtac=CMP but it only has 4 channel audio and I worry it will suck with the stock speakers.
Actually, I am trying to get a hold of the company now. I'm hoping I can get them to make an all in one model. I think a PC addition will possibly be the future of car systems. I mean this thing has wi/fi that you could access while driving in any major city. There is so much potential for a small PC system onboard.

Check out http://www.mp3car.com/. Good info, might want to ask around on their forum. Many knowledgeable people over there.
I'm considering getting the Xenarc In dash LCD Touchscreen and using my Mac mini as a Car PC. I'd probably relocate my Alpine HU so I can retain stereo functions and get the Alpine RCA to AI-Net converter for audio from the Mini.
Why go through the trouble of the Mac mini? Just get the "Infill T3 w/ Street Deck" from Mp3Car.com. The thing is a standard double DIN unit with 7" touch screen, plays CDs, MP3s, DVDs, and Movies, has GPS Navigation, USB ports, WiFi, bluetooth, 40GB HDD, and remote. Oh yea, and it'll sync up with your home pc for your new audio.
Plus it supports OBD II real time monitoring, just buy the link. Think the XM unit is $70. The backup cam is about $170, with the system able to handle up to 4 cams. The unit supports over-air TV, not sure if it has the hardware antenna stock or not. And with the optional internet cardbus slot and a cardbus modem, you can get highspeed wireless internet anywhere you can get a cell phone signal.
I kinda plan on doing a full build up with one of these when I get home next year. Heck, since the thing supports all those video and audio inputs, I could even wire up a XBox 360 or PS3 to it.

The box without the options ( so 'only' CD, DVD, MP3, videos, picture viewing, GPS, WiFi, Bluetooh, 40GB HDD, Remote, Windows XP, Car Deck, and a few other odds and ends) is $2200.
Alot I know, but compare that to what it would cost to get everything else in it and you save alot of money. Adding in the OBDII adapter, backup cam, and XM radio and the cost is about $2570.
Oh yea, you get the full dev kit for Car Deck, so you can make your own modules or interface graphics, or just download ones other people have already made. And full software updates.
Pretty much the most full featured, polished, and supported Car PC I have found, and I've been looking for a long time. Intel actually contracted Car Deck to make the interface for their new style system (halfway between a tablet PC and a Pocket PC) since Microsofts one sucks.

I've had a much better idea, Ive been thinking about buying a Thin Client to use in my car. there small, have no HD and run off RAM, and no fan, AND run on 12v. Check them out, just ebay Thin CLient or google them. Mount one in the trunk and hook it up to a touchschreen in the dash and load some itunes and some tunes on a USB key and your set to cruise.
