Drawing Craaaaaaaaaaazy Power!!!

Anyone had a problem with the Pioneer Avic - Z2 drawing a ton of power while the car is off? My battery has been dying overnight and its because the Z2 is drawing 900 miliAmps when the normal draw for our car is 50 miliAmps while the car is off. I have an '06 ss supercharged. Any ideas?

Thanks,

Fargs

you hooked it up wrong. No car should die overnight, there should be NO powerdrain

It's hooked up to the ignition switch in my car. no power gets to it unless the car is on. is there any way it could drain power even though the head unit itself is getting no power?

hook it up to a switched power source from the fuse box first... If the device is not on its not drawing power. Something is most likely wrong with ur wiring. Doublecheck everything with a voltmeter.

Thats what I thought. But I put my stock head unit back in for 3 days and i havent had a problem. Its been working fine and not drawing any additonal power. Could the head unit be keeping the amp on while its off?

well there is an easy way to find out, disconect the 12v wire that sends the signal to turn on ur amp and see if its still drawing power.

Its just the stock amp. It's just a unplug and plug back in. Could the VSR wire cause any power to be used while the car is off?

the amp turn on wire in the stock harness is pink... look on your harness and see what the STOCK pink wire is hooked up to on the other side

I would not recommend hooking it up to the ignition switch... i did that and for some reason, it would never release my key at times... took it to the dealer and had to pay $120 to get it fixed... thats just my personal experience though.

Since then, iv hooked it up through the fuse box... thats the safest way man... just my 2 cents though.

OKAAAAAY. I just figured it out. The harness that I was using was the wrong one. If anyone gets the AVIC Z2 Deck. DO NOT and I repeat DO NOT buy the GMOS LAN-04 Wiring kit. It will not work properly.

its using phantom energy.... electric energy that is drawn through a circut even when the power source is not on.... why is it doing it? no idea but thats whats happeneing it sounds like... its the same idea with cell phone charges left in the socket over a period of time.. it draws power out even though the car may be off...
