Exclamation Dynamat questions????

i'm kinda new to it. just wanted to know if there is cheaper and /or better material. i know it's probably been answered, but i've been too busy and lazy to look. i would also appreciate it if someone could steer me to the pictures / how-to articles to disassemble door panels, head liner, trunk, etc. for our Cobalt

my Birf-day is in 3 weeks and i plan on asking for this stuff. i will install my self. i'm good with this kind of stuff, just like to research things in advance so no surprises happen and i know what to expect

thanks in advance

^^ where did you put it? doors and trunk or more?? i have a loud exhaust ii'd like to get rid of inside, so i was gonna start with the trunk (spare tire well and actual trunk deck/lid). plus i was thinkin that would make the stock sub seem bettter

The trunk floor and under the rear seat made a huge difference in exhaust noise for my car. the top and trunk lid probably wont do much until you get some actual bass in there

How much are you gonna spend?

don't know yet, birthday is in 2 weeks and hoping to get cash...that will determine how much. i have a co-worker that has a connection somewhere, said he could get me it for $1.50 per square foot, so if thats the case, going with that. if the hook-up fails, i'm looking at second skin.

If anyone thats done it before wants to come to So Cal to help me put this in, i'd be more than greatful...i'd buy lots of beers and lunch

get what for 1.5 per sq foot? not all "sound dampening products" are the same.

i dont care what u use honestly but ill tell u straight up. Alot of people get roofing stuff at lowes for cheap as ****. Just better hope u live in alaska bc that **** will melt off and it doesnt really stick very well even if its not meltin

asphalt= might as well not even do it. Butyl = the way to go

I am very satisfied with my setup. I have dynamat extreme covered with 1/4" dynaliner (1/8" on doors) on every coverable space of the car. I bought 305 sq feet of dynamat product total, but it is being used for my car plus some sections of my 4runner. I got it all for pretty cheap considering how much I got.
PS: It is strangely quiet when stock; hushed with catless. My dad wants me to do his car now cause I am quieter than his new v8 Lexus

At the advice of EmperorJJ (I have a thread somehwere) I used Second Skin products in my '69 C10. I sent Ant at Second Skin an email telling him what I was trying to accomplish (kill engine noise and heat) and got a quick response as to what I should use.

I ended up buying a bulk pack of Damplifier Pro and 3 sheets of Heat Wave Pro, I already did the entire floor and plan on doin the cowl and back of the cab this summer. Installion was pretty straight forward, granted a 40 year old pickup floor isn't much, but still.

I do have some pics, but they really wouldn't do much good seeing as how you're installing on a Cobalt.

Seriously this is going to sound ghetto, but just use a thick towel.
It worked perfectly and is a morbidly cheap alternative.

well sorta depends on whats going on. a towel does nothing on the floor. but would work very well shoved under the rear deck
