factory bluetooth mic w/aftermarket head

OK...
I have a 2009 Cobalt with the Pioneer system, OnStar, and Bluetooth. I'm thinking of upgrading the head unit to one with navigation. If the unit has integrated bluetooth, is there a way to wire that in to the stock mic instead of using the stupid little dongle mic?

Thanks for your help!

i believe with the lan mos 04 or something like that you can get bluetooth using all the factory stuff in the car as well as the steering wheel controls... but dont quote me on that as im not so sure.

My guess is that you would have to use the new mic... I just can't see the factory bluetooth mic working with an aftermarket stereo.

Shouldn't you just be able to find the wires for the mic in the wiring harness, cut them and splice onto the jack for the dongle mic? The only problems could see is if the OEM mic is some really screwed up design (3-wire instead of 2, funky resistance, etc)

Now I'm wondering if the factory Bluetooth is a function of the head unit, or the Onstar. If it's not part of the head unit, then theoretically I should be able to maintain the bluetooth with a aftermarket HU and the Metra kit, Anybody have experience with this?

Thanks for the input

If you get rid of your onstar, let me know, I need a 2009 onstar module.

If you switch out your H/U with an aftermarket one your bluetooth will still work. I replaced my H/U with the AVH-4100DVD and DIDN'T install the CD-BTB200 yet, and my bluetooth still works, it's just quiet. The stereo will turn off and your speakers will do everything as normal when you have a call coming in or going out. It just won't be loud. As for the volume, just install the bluetooth adapter for your radio to interface with your new H/U and that is all you need to do. No need for the new mic, as your mic in the car still works.

Thanks Leveecius for the response.
Did your steering wheel controls for the bluetooth still work?

I was wondering about this to. Because i had a 10 with factory Bluetooth and thought about putting a aftermarket HU in.

When you say the call volume isn't loud. How loud is it and can you set the volume?
