Fail!! tried installing leds in hvac. please help
after i thought i had all the bulbs in the hvac controls replaced with leds, i hooked it back up and not only will they not light up, but all the lights in the gauges wont either. this makes it very difficult to see my speed at night. Can somebody tell me what i have done wrong. i was hoping it was just a fuse but i dont think it is.
The resistor drops the voltage to one that the led can handle...the board is getting 12v and the led's most likely run at like 3.5v...unless of course you bought 12v led's then none of this matters
there is no such thing as a 12v led... if what ur putting on there is just the led and prongs then they need resistors. a 12v led is just an led that already has the resistor but it would have wires and stuff
lastly your leds are going to need to be small and wide angle. most are directional and trust me it makes the hvac controls look like ****. guess its better then nothing thou

Right now I just stuck two already wired walmart LEDs in there and put it in place to make it visible. I checked every fuse in the floor box(even the non related ones) and none are gone. I'm guessing me using lights without resistors ruined my cluster lights as well. Can anybody else figure out why the cluster lights wouldn't work?
still trying to figure this out. is it possible that the hvac is the middle of a circuit for all interior lights. the steering wheel control buttons dont light up either. if the hvac control system is completely removed will that prevent the cluster from lighting up?

the hvac controls dont need to be in at all for any lights to work. on both fuse panels yank all the fuses and visually check to see if they are ok. and make sure the car is off with the keys out of the ignition
show me what? yes its possible to use leds without resistors in an application that uses less voltage or multiple leds wired properly. but what does that have to do with my statement that there is no such thing as a 12v led? to be honest im probably a liar. i bet there is an led that takes 12v but its not going to be a standard looking led and nothing u can just pick up at radioshack or walmart or anything like that. no offence to the OP but someone looking at a real 12v led isnt going to be asking that question. im just saying
