so 1600 dollars for a enclosure like that? how easy or difficult is fiber glass?

 

That depends on how good you are with your hands. Its a long tedious process and involves lots of patients. Creating molds, cutting MDF rings, mounting rings, stretching fabric, mixing resins, doing alot of sanding and bondo work, and possibly adding carpet....

 

I think the fiberglass work is fun personally. Only bad part is that since it takes sooo long to do properly, theres no "instant gratification" factor

I did mine in a weekend and it cost roughly around 100 for materials. But I've done it before and do body work for a living. Just do some research and give it a shot. The worst thing that could happen is you waste 100 and some time.

 

my guys close to me said about 1500 for a big box/enclosure, and about 400 for just a sub outline

im gonna have them build me a box outta mdf wood that is form fitting

 

damn screw that, I built mine for about $250

Actually i can still carry the dummy tire in there if i go on trips, but running around local i don't worry about it to much...

 

sick set up bfaulk, is the air tank at the base of the back seat behind everything? thats exactly how i want sub, amp and tank set up

 

Actually the air tank is under the floor in the spare tire compartment, if you look you can see the air compressor line running to it. I downsized the tank to make it work, i used a 2.5 gal. viar tank, but it actually works quite well.

that is a killer setup....you like that L7 sub? i've heard mixed opinons about them around here. The ones I've heard I've really liked personally

 

The L7 is a nice sub, i just have always liked kicker, most in my area use JL, so i wanted to be different. As far as sound quality, well it's loud, but kinda muddy in my opinion if that makes any sense. But it's in a very funky box so that may have something to do with it, plus it's borderline to little airspace in the box i have it in, so in a different box it may sound better. So long story short, it sounds ok, but i 've heard better...

 

L7s are known to be loud but sound like ****

 

cool....that looks like a sealed box for that L7 too.....maybe a ported box would be better?? I'm still trying to decide what to get....I love the memphis stuff I've had in the past, I also had 3 10w6 Jl's back in the day, in the back of one of those 80's dodge chargers.....that banged, but it was expensive as hell. I'm just trying to get ideas for now

 

ya a ported box would be louder but not sound better

true....Personally I go for SQ now...my days of window rattling are over. That and I'm about deaf in one ear...haha.....thank the air tools at work for most of that though

 

honestly interms of SQ subs im a compete noob. But really box does alot. now ask about speakers or amps and i have u covered

Ive liked the sound of the old RE XXX, MX; Digital Designs subs; JL W3,6,7; boston g5; Rockford HX2,T1; FI Q.... but all of those can be considered SQL because they can get loud too

 

I have an OLD image dynamics IDQ 15DVC I was thinking about using...supposedly a SQ sub, I know the 10's and 12's were good for that....I was kinda thinking myself that 15 and SQ is an oxymoron....i could be wrong though. I'mm too short of funds at the moment to be too concerned with it. Maybe I should sell what I have laying around to fund new stuff.

really....i figured a 15 would be too much. My last car I had, I was aiming to do sound q, I was shooting for the class where it has to remain stock looking. 2000 mustang...I ditched the mach 460 junk, I had memphis studio components F+R, 2 memphis HPO 10's in sealed boxes, and for amps I had 2 memphis studio 250D's (one on each 10) and a memphis studio 3004 75x4 amp on the components. I was running an Eclipse CD5441 5 volt head unit and since the stang had 2 separate single din openings, I had the in-dash 6 disc changer too, that sucker was more than the head unit was. Nothing super-fancy, no DSP's or big EQ's or anything. I wrecked the car before I got to compete, but I did go to a sound off and had the SPL checked once just for the halibut....only 138 DB....it sounded killer to me though for not cutting anything up

 

ya mustangs have a crap trunk thou. We actually have 2 boxes specifically for mustang trunks. a triple 8s slot ported (RE 8) or a dual 10s box with an areoport (meant for SE 10s but work with alot of different ones)

the dual 10s with the SE's is by far the loudest you will get in that body style mustang
