Forward or rear facing subs??????
Forward or rear facing subs??????
My JL 12W7 is currently facing forward in the balt and i was wondering if i change it to rear facing if i would get better bass response out of it?????......If anybody has experience with this in their balt any info would be great......thanks!!!
Yea here is the link to my JL audio page.. http://mobile.jlaudio.com/gallery/de...ehicle_id=2493 .....only thing different from these pics is that i have a sony indash DVD now......Later
Looks like plenty of dynomat back there.
Turn it around.
I had mine facing forward, through some dyno in and turned them around. What a difference. Now I'm on a mission to dyno the whole car twice over but thats another story
BTW- Good job on the rear deck lid speakers

Thanks for the info spun......and thanks for the compliments as well.......next time i get the car into a warm shop i will flip it around and take a listen to it........BTW, yea most people say that the 500/1 is underpowering the sub but in fact it isnt......The only difference between putting the 500/1 and the 1000/1 on the 12W7 is only about 2-3 DB's.....i had both and decided to go with the 500/1 because it was just about 1/2 the price and because i had this setup in my old truck, the way the amps were mounted it looked much better because the 500/1 and the 300/4 have the same chassis size and fit much better into my custom made box/amp rack.....Thanks again for the info....Later
Yes the gains are set correctly.....i have level matched the amp to the deck output so that the amp is putting out exactly the correct amount of clean power....JL's specs are fantastic to be able to go on....you would think they are in the business of audio equipment or something........HAHHAAHA.......
subs have to face the trunk..well back of the box=back of the seat..any other way sounds like ****..i have 2 10" memphis m3's and trust me..if the sound isnt bouncing off the trunk it will sound like garbage..you'll get a little rattle but not too bad.
Alright I used to compete in competitions and have a fair amount of experience dealing with the w7 in particular. If you are running a sealed box face it towards the trunk (Reasoning: The sub will fire off the trunk and the sound waves will rebound of the trunk and around the box and back to the front of the car where they will bounce yet once again off the windshield thus intensifying the sound by creating backpressure on the subwoofer) Now if you have a ported box it would be better to face the windshield as it will be louder because of the lack of needed backpressure. If you have extra money lying around have someone build a custom ported box and have it fire towards the winshield or go through the back deck and have the port fire to the rear window.
Good Luck Jason

Rear facing has never been the loudest for me. That does is cuts out the distortion some were you dont hear it which is not good for your speakers. There for you turn it up more. If a box built efficient enough it will be loud firing into the cab.
OK so i turned the sub around and HOLY **** WHAT A DIFFERENCE!!!!!......i never imagined it could be so substantial......Even with all the sound deadener in my car i can definately say i need more now.....LOL......finding all the other rattles now is gonna take some time but thats ok.......So to anyone that was also wondering about the forward/rear facing issue......definately face it towards the trunk and buy some deadener......Later
