Front door sprakers intermitantly not working
Front door sprakers intermitantly not working
My front door speakers sometimes don't work at all. I have read on here that water can get in and mess them up but mine work sometimes and sound great and other times just don't work at all.
Any thoughts?
I would think if it was water damage to the cone it would sound like **** and still work. Unless maybe it is shorting out the voice coil.
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. I have been dealing with my half ass sound system too long.

Pull your panel and see, is it both or one? If water is getting to the terminals it could be shorting them out but if it was getting to the vc(which would be hard to do with stock speakers) then it could also be shorting out there too.
Weird how the problem is intermittent... I would second tru2nrtt777's suggestion and pull off the door panel to see the condition of the speaker.
When I replaced mine I was surprised how cheap the speakers were, especially the cones, the felt like paper lol.
If you do decide to invest in some new speakers, look at getting some speaker baffles since the speakers will be exposed to water.

Yeah the 2.2 speakers are paper. LOL
I would check all your connectors first, they corrode after a while and will cause intermittent operation. Especially in those Maryland salted roads during the winter. Pull connectors check for rust/corosion clean with an abrasive or small file for connectors, add dielectric grease. Reinstall.

Thanks for the advise. I pulled the door panel. I was getting a signal to the speaker but the voice coil was shorted out. I already ordered a set of alpine type R speakers for the doors and rear deck and baffles to go along with them.
And the connections were incredibly corroded. I wasn't surprised to see the low quality paper cone speakers. My car is base model.
Thanks again for the help.

For the ring and all? Lol
Off subject, i always thought the big old (80's, 90's) wooden speakers with 12" woofers you find in home theather systems are awesome

One last suggestion, make sure you get the correct adapter for the speakers... You can modify your old front speakers and use them as brackets (I think there is a How-To here or on one of the other forums). The old OEM speakers act as a seal as well.
I run a TC Sounds Epic 10" subwoofer in my car and I love it lol, I think it's more geared towards home audio but a lot of people use it in their cars.
