Front Speakers

Just so ya'll know, the front speakers in my 2.4 SS w/o Pioneer system did not have the conventional 4 hole speaker mounts like every speaker in the world. They had some type of clip deal and a single bolt at the top holding them in.

I had to drill my own holes for the woofers of my new component set.

ya thats becoming really common for gm they don't even bother screwing it in just use hooks on the botton and a retaining clip at the top....seems cheap to me but i wasn't really expecting much from a cheap factory system anyway...besides mine lasted three days soo

Thanks for the heads' up. This is probably why my right front speaker rattles. I've seen numerous occasions where the plastic clip has no insulation on it and vibrates against the door skin. Electrical tape works as a good insulator for those of you keeping your stock system.

Hmm. I bet the 6.5" front speakers in the Cobalts are the same as the base model trucks get.

OT: I have Infinity Kappa coaxials set to arrive this Monday ( ). Got all four (Front 6.5", rear 6X9) for $234 shipped.

It could be why it rattles although I kinda doubt it. They were in there pretty good.

Good deal on the Infinities. I got Pioneer REV components in the front and 6x9s in the back (still gotta put the 6x9s in though).

I was going to start a new thread about this but the head unit is a pain too - I put the Alpine 9853 in and yes, it does drop right in like they say, but if you want to run RCA cables from it or use the PAC SWI-ALP you have to notch the plastic behind it. On the RCA side you have to notch the metal too. I would suggest using RCA cables with the smallest ends you can find - I used the karma kable from knukonceptz with the big doofy metal ends and that only made the problem worse.
