Hi, ive recently purchased a high output alternator for my cobalt and im going to run 1/0 wire back to the battery from it. Now my question is do you have to fuse that wire? I would think yes because of fire hazzard. Either fuse it with a 300A fuse or a circuit breaker.

its always better to fuse than not to fuse... it can get over kill some times but why not when you can spend 30 bucks to fuse it correctly than having your car burn down

 

Ok, Thanks. I was thinking that aswell but do you think that would create a noticeable voltage drop across the fuse?, or not noticable at all. But that is still better and haing my car burn down. Is the factory wire ran back to the battery fused?

no factory wire isnt fused. but its stops by the fusebox so

your not going to loose any voltage. Run a 300 amp circuit breaker/fuse to the back and call it a day

 

there's no noticeable voltage drop across fuses and make sure your fuse size matches the peak output of the alternator
