Gauge Cluster

I figured I would post this here considering the Cobalt is a close sibling to the Solstice/Sky in terms of most electronics.

I have been working on a project that you all may be interested in.

This is not yet installed and is for example at this time. You have to excuse any color anomalies and any jittering you see, they are not there in what I am designing. They are caused by the screen recorder to animated gif encoder.

some of the features that will be available are parking cameras, parking sensors, lane assist, lane view, navigation, hands free telephone, instant MPG, average MPG, distance to empty, DTC code scanning, TPMS, speedometer adjustment for wheel and tire changes, tire tread wear calculation with speedometer offset for wear, transparent OLED HUD and all of the factory settings.

The parking camera system can have up to 4 cameras attached and will provide a birds eye view of the vehicles and also parking guides if the vehicle has a steering angle sensor, If the vehicle does not have a steering angle sensor one can be added to the vehicle. If the parking cameras and parking sensors are attached it will provide identification of objects in the path. The parking sensors will provide range to object and where the object is relative to the vehicle.

The navigation would be Google maps and would have to have an internet connection of some form. it can be a tethered connection to a cell phone over WiFi. The position data is gotten either from the vehicles OnStar system if equipped and if no OnStar is available then data can be gotten from an external GPS antenna.

The HUD is approx 4.5" wide and 1.5" tall This would require the modification of the dash pad in order to install. This is not a projector, and as such does not have double image problems and washout from the sun. It is a piece of class that would stick up into the drivers view from the top of the dashboard.

The GUI as seen in the image above is 100% customizable. There are almost no restrictions and the gauges and GUI are created by using an XML file for input. You can have the software render the gauges as seen above. or static image files can be used. images of needles can also be used.

Navigation of the menus will be done done through the factory steering wheel controls.

I could use some help with the vehicle integration portions. I am looking for as much information that I can get my hands on concerning the CAN systems in our vehicles. The SWCAN and also the HSCAN, I need arbitration id's and what needs to be sent in a data packet. I also need to know the equations to decode the replies.

let me know what you think and also if you have any information that would help and are willing to share I would appreciate it.

I wish you the best of luck though and def interested in hearing how it goes

The pretty cool thing is that it's not limited to only the Kappa chassis and and Cobalts. I am going to continue to use GM for example but the only thing that would need to be changed would be the screen size and a slew of vehicles would be supported from 08 onward.
My solution is going to be much like what the Torque application does and gives the user the ability to add additional EOBD PIDS. I would need to go a step beyond that because of the SWCAN for the body control portions. With the ability for the user to be able to enter this information then the system could be used in any vehicle that has a CAN data bus in it. This is every car made since 2008 and is sold in the US.
