Gauge Cluster swapping

Well after getting tired of my 140 cluster in my sport. I decided to call the local chevy dealer and have him look up the part #s for each year....

This is what we came up with.

05-06 swap
07
08
09-10 swap

Now it showed different part numbers between 07-09. So its unsure if those will swap. He said a cluster would need to be reprogrammed if it was swapped. Though from whats been seen on here I dont think thats the case. So when I get paid im going to find out what swaps on the 08's. Any one else have any input on this? What years did you swap??

Those numbers seem about right.

And no there is no reprogramming, but dang that would be a good scam for a dealership.

yeah thats what I thought as well Though im honestly just trying to figure out if an 07 cluster will work on an 08. I know they went from the sc to the tc. But the 2.4s are pretty identical (hell im even running a jet module from an 07 in my 08) but unsure on the clusters.
So guess when payday rolls around I will try to pick up a gauge cluster and some other goodies.

All the clusters work in all the cars, and the speedo even reads right even though you have more numbers for the same sweep.

Not totally true. Some of them the chime will be lost or doubled and the dic is different so some controls wont work right depending on what years are swapped. I know for sure when you swap the 05-06 you want to stick to those. The 07-07 swap is fine but no one really seems to have done an 08 up swap yet.

I've been told the 07 and up are all interchangeable... let us know what you find out

When I swapped my 07 2.4 cluster I just went on eBay and bought an 07 SS/SC cluster. Straight swap, no reprogramming needed. I don't know about all 07+ being swappable but I figure sticking to the same year helps avoid any problems. Here's what mine looks like now:

Well im waiting to find a radar station or a cop who has a radar (amazing amount of cops in the stl area actually dont have radar!! )

But went by one of the adjustable highway speed limit signs which flash when your over by like 10mph and it didnt flash at 65mph on the new speedometer so it looks like all is well.

Going by rpms and fuel mileage it seems im accurate it does seem like its shifting a bit early at WOT if the speed is correct though. But then again I just put the stock exhaust back on so it might be adjusting for that as well.

But from what I can tell and 09 Turbo SS cluster works just fine in an 08 2.4. All the lights functions and sounds work perfectly. Will try to find a cop with a radar tomorrow or one of the mobile radar stations (they are shutdown right now due to the snow).

Unless you're boosted, not exactly sure why you'd need the 160MPH/260KPH gauges in the 2.4.

The SC/TC cluster just has better looking gauges IMO. The red and silver/gray outline really adds a lot to the look compared to the plain looking 2.4 cluster's gauges.

I didnt like the white face gauges. I think these feel a bit higher class to me. Plus the price for the cluster from zzp was right!

Makes sence I guess. I came from a G5, so the 140MPH white face gauges were something I'm used to.

They were also too bright for me at night. I like softer more subtle lighting

im on the fence right now if i should order a 160 cluster for my LT sedan (08). the only reason im debating is ive decided to embrace the stock look and i dont know if the cluster lighting is going to clash with the rest of the interior lights... ie delco head unit, door panel lights etc.

anybody that did the swap know from experience?

p.s. chesterfield, huh? what up neighbor?

not much.

And for me the gauge cluster matches the stock lighting just fine as its the same lighting in all cobalts. Only the gauges are different. For me it was well worth the money.

However they did make the car feel slower from the gauge not moving as quickly due to the distance between each mph marker (140 compared to 160)

P.S since your a local come over to www.gatewayecotec.com/forums Its a local stl site (obviously)
