gauges randomly shut off(help)

OK Some help with this would be greatly appreciated. My car has done this several times now, and its a random thing. All my gauges will just shut off. Speedo and tach go to 0 and fuel gauge goes to empty, and a warning will come up for power steering in the info center, and the security light comes on. The power steering is still working, and lights for the gauges will stay on as well. The car is also running and driving fine the entire time this is happening as well. Sometime it only happens for a few seconds and others several minutes, but once that gauges start working again the security light stays on. I have to turn the car off for a few min to get the security light to go off. I've looked for obvious Damage to wiring, and checked fuses. Would this be a Computer Issue possibly?

Its got an aftermarket Alpine cd player in it. The factory cd player was removed two weeks after I got the car in July 2006. Its being powered by the 12v source from the factory harness and switched 12v from the sunroof. The factory pioneer amp has been removed, and none of the other wiring from the factory radio harness is being used other then the 12v source. All the other wires are taped up and out of the way. New speaker wires have been ran from the alpine head unit. No other wiring in the car has been touched. It has had several different systems in it, but currently it just has the cd player and the speakers are being powered by it. I've checked the alternator and its putting out the proper voltage, and I see no obvious damage under the hood or under the dash.
