Hardwire Cellphone
I remember reading somewhere that someone had hardwired a cellphone charger into their car. I was wondering if there was a kit to use for that, like some radar detectors have, or is it more complicated. If it is only a kit, where can we get them?

just cut the end off the charger and splice it into the cigarette lighter or a 12 v source. or if you dont want to ruin your cell charger buy the cigarette hole thingy adaptor and splice into the cigarette lighter wires, i can show you ill have pics of mine up around 10pm or so. Just took some new ones of that.

Thanks, pics would be great. I just wanna see where and how you tapped into the 12v source. Also where did you put the cellphone connector part? Do you have it just dangling around?

i would personally do the radio, that way you will be able to charge it as soon as the car AUX power is on

I did that with my Radar Detector. But I kinda liked the look of the switch so I was gonna do that, plus that way I can leave my phone in there when the car is off and have it charge.

FRIARPOP when you cut off the end of the charger, how many wired did you have? Just two? I went and bought a new charger and when I cut it off there were 5. I know that two of them are the main power, they are the big two. But the other 3 I have no idea about. Did you have extra wires? I bought the iGo charger, the one that has the changeable tips.

ugh i only had a positive and ground source. 2 wires..., If it is any easier just by a 12volt socket adaptor, and splice that into the 12volt source i know those only have two wires, and then you wont ruin your charger or plug.

That's a good idea, but I already bought the new plug and cut it, haha. Oh well, I'm just gonna guess that the other 3 wires aren't necessary. They are a lot smaller than the postive and negative wires anyway.

You really cant go rite into the fuse box, because the cell phone charger prolly run on some other voltage then 12. Get a extra cigg. plug with wires for positive and negative on them. The positive will go to a fuse that will turn on and off with the car then negative is just ground. This is the best way to do it. I did it with my phone and I'm a certified installer that really the only "way" to do it safely.

my charger came with a circuit board and led. i wired up the leads on the board and shoved it under cig lighter and drilled a tiny hole to run the wire out. looks pimp but i kinda miss that dumb ass led light........i dont know why.
