Okay, so i was wondering, would there be enough room in the rear side panel, by the back seats, to put like a 6x9 speaker in that panel? It wouldnt be that hard, just cut a hole and mount it...any ideas?

the six speaker thing is kind of marketing gimmic. it refers to a component set of speakers up front with mid bass/mid range in the doors (6.5 inch) and tweeters which play the higher frequencies in the sail panels. and not really 6 speakers going full range sound production.

i think your idea is not good for 2 reasons:

1. if you are into sound quality you normally put the best you can afford into the front to create your "soundstage" and normally eliminate your rear speakers altogether. the reason for this is if you went to see a concert or orchestra the perfomance is in front of you, and that's where your sound should come from (rear passengers be damned LOL)

2. the plastic is not going to be a good mount for any type of speaker handling mid-bass frequency.

my opinions only of course but if you decide to start cuttin' . . .start posting the pics!

edited: i'm not saying components are a gimmic, (they are the way to go), just saying the way gm or any auto manufacturer says it is misleading. . .oh hell i don't think i'm describing my thoughts right

lol, i know what you mean, dont worry.
i like how they do the coponent system but it was just a neat idea that i had, and if anyone did put speakers in the plastic, it would vibrate like no other, so i was just seeing if anyone has done it, but im not gonna cut on my car. lol. but thanks for the concern.

How about not listening to the music so loud? If the music is distorted, its too much for the speakers to handle and turn the volume down. At that point the music doesn't sound good anyways.

^^^Not with 6x9's though, right?
My friend had a Civic hatch back with a really nice system in it. He had custom enclosures made for that same area, about half way between the arm rest and the window and had RF Punch 8's put in there with a removable panel (speaker cloth) over top. He had the x-over on the amp that was running them set to HP and they screamed .
If your going to do it, biox them in.

nope... 6.5 componants but theres enough room there for a giant 8 so if you can build a fiberglass pod theres plenty of options

you could try it, but like these guys were saying, you would get a lot of vibration if you just mount to the plastic, you would have to build a box or somehow mount it to somehting solid.

yeah, sorry, I would have built up something for them to mount to. I know enough to do that. (I was thinking as Emp said, fiberglass pod or box)

This is whats behind those quarter panels:

LOTS of space for sub's motor as long as you get a pod built for it.

you would still have a prob with vibration if you didnt build a box or pod or w/e.

Traitor! With all the DD knowledge I now have (thanks to you), I'm ashamed you wouldn't be putting 6.5 DD's as your midbass

James, If you were to estimate the airspace available in that gap, what would you figure it to be? I could fiberglass in some of that, make a small sealed enclosure and mount a 8 in each side. then make a cover for the Plastic side panel and have a grill there for it...
