I hate to do this and Ive read the stickies and 900 other websites' info on this one million times, but Im about to spend 450 dollars on a pioneer avh-p3100dvd and 4 Clarion Quality series speakers... and thought hey thats a lot of money - why am I shooting in the dark!?

I have a base ls 06 with nothing at all on it (bangin). I figured its time to feed my ears but I just CANNOT figure out what Im losing in this equation.
Its getting professional install but ***** always try to rip you off or say poo that just aint true so I wanted to ask.


What will I lose? Chimes, turn signal, radio playing after the key is out (i'd miss that)?
What SHOULD the harness(es) run me? I know I dont need no 120 dollar one and ive gotten the notion that I wont lose my chimes, but what about the other things mentioned...
Anything else?

speakers arent really anything special but 450 would get you the radio alone over here. 65 or so for the radio install 50 buck to install the speakers + how ever much those speakers are worth (probably like 60 a pair)

 

if you get the cheap wiring harness (like me) you'll lose your door chimes, blinker sounds, and dummy dingers *trunk ajar, hood ajar, no seat belt yada yada* but you dont lose the radio after the car is turned off and out. the harness i got was like $40 man

 

Yeah Im getting a deal on the head unit, its usually upwards of 400 (getting it for 300) and the speakers are usually 100 a pair but Im getting them for 60 a pair.


I guess Ill live without the blinker sounds, that just seems so weird to not have them... But epic on the radio staying on!

forgot to add in that you'll lose steering wheel controls too. and if you have onstar i'm not sure how that works either.

 

only if you have the onstar and xm you will lose the chimes i have a base model with no xm or onstar and got the cheap harness the only thing i lost was the r.a.p

 

The chimes will stay regardless. you have an 06. The rap feature staying is dependent on the install. If you have power doors then its simple and probably will be retained if not then its gonna be difficult and probably wont be retained. but again that's all dependent on where they hook the acc up to

 

i have an 06 and bought all the stuff thats in the sticky. cost me like 30 bucks total for the harnes, antenna adapter, and the double din kit i got.. didnt lose anything.

 

Alright cool thanks for the general prices, I was happy when I was told the price for the harness and it was about right.

Anyway Ill talk to my guy and see if he can somehow keep the r.a.p.. Hope I can because I have power nothing (which apparently complicates it) haha. The retained power is the best thing to me since.. sliced bread.
