Help finding an amp

ok so i want to put in an amp that is 400 Watt rms x 2 channel at 2 ohms.

i cant seem to find on with that output. i have an amp bridged now and it gets really hot really fast, and its only 30 degrees outside. Just wondering if anyone had any good ideas.

Thanks

i would offer to take it off your hands, but i dont think the alternator would be able to handle that much of a load. i dont really want to mod my car too much just want some nice bass.

So I take it your running 2 DVC subs?
Why not just get a mono block amp thats good down to 1 ohm

This amp will do 900 @ 1 ohm and its a almost stealing it for $349.00, less than half its retail. Its efficient so it should not have the heat problems your having now

im not really looking to spend that much. i dont want to go over $200. would it be a good idea to look into the 2 ohm dvc subs so i can get a mono amp that is stable at 2 ohm with 500 watt rms??? I plan on running two subs too. since it is made to handle that power it shouldn't heat up too much right. I got a cheap one now and im sure its not very efficient. Should i look into a class D amp to, because i think they are supposed to run more efficiently, and therefor cooler?

Thanks for the help guys really appreciate it!

would this be a good amp

im gonna soudn like a douche but have you thought that maybe your subs are hooked up incorrectly? if the amp gets hot quickly theres a 70% chance you have it hooked up wrong, a 20% chance your amp is broken, and a 10% chance your subs are half blown.

while you can go ahead and buy a new amp that will probably do the same **** it might be worth it if you can give me some specifics of what you have and i can possibly help you out

and yes that alpine is a nice amp

ok i have a visonik amp, and subs. It was a package my girlfriend got for me. Im sure thats why it heats up so fast. it was only $150 for the whole thing. Anyways both subs are DVC 400 Watt rms @ 4 ohms 800 Watt Peak. The amp is 200 watts rms @ 4 ohms X 2 channel and 400 watts rms @ 4 ohms bridged. So i have the amp bridged and have the subs wired up in this configuration

http://akamaipix.crutchfield.com/ca/...4-ohm_mono.jpg

im thinking that is right.

sounds legit. i would double check everything especially to make sure the subs are dual 4 and not dual 2. Shitty amp or not if it heats up fast its normally because the amp is running at a impedance lower then its rated. how are the settings? x-over should be at 80hz low pass, boost normally down/off and moderate gain but that depends on how much signal ur getting

it heats up in about 20 minutes, and it cold outisde, im just worried in the summer it will only work for 5 minutes. I got the crosser over set, the bass boos is probably at 4 or 5, and the gain is about 35 percent of the way up. I still have to stock radio, but used a LOC

http://www.davidnavone.com/cart.asp?24&cat=7

got to scroll down a little.

thats about all i can say about it. I was just thinking the amp is inefficient, and running it bridged probably puts more strain on the amp.

Turn that bass booster **** off. The thing is set everything to normal and tweak it then go tweak the gain on the amp.

ok so i know what im getting now

im getting the alpine amp

http://www.woofersetc.com/index.cfm?...roduct_ID=6249

and two alpine type R subs t 2 ohms

http://www.sonicelectronix.com/item_...+-TYPE+R-.html

now my question is what size should the box be. I want a sealed one for now, and the hatchback design so they are angled up a bit. I have one box and it is...

height 11-3/4"
width 22-1/2"
depth 16-1/4"

i'd advise you against your decision.

The amp puts out:
300w rms @ 4ohm
500w rms @ 2ohm

Each sub would need:
500w rms @ 2ohm
x2 means you need an amp that puts out:
1000w rms @ 2ohm

So really that amp is not the best decision for powering 2 type-r 2ohms. If you did here would be your options in wiring

or

basically what I'm getting at is, even if wired in the first configuration, you will be essentially giving the sub's 250w rms each. if you wired to 8 ohm, your amp would only be putting out less than 100w rms to each sub.

The sub's you chose are very good in my opinion, amp choice just needs a lil help.

since they are wired in parallel dont they get the same amount of power each. I though the power was only split when the subs were wired in series?

what would you recommend to power the subs?

lol well back to looking for amps. Thanks for all the help guys i really appreciate it!!!

ok so i found 2 different amps. They are only 900 rms but it shouldnt be too bad if each sub is 50 short.

i have yet to see the Power Acoustik BAMF(aka Bad Ass Mother ****er) in action. I've heard they are well built(compared to the other Power Acoustiks).

I had a cheaper PA amp for like a day, and it hella broke. lol.

That Kenwood looks nice. I don't really have experience with Kenwood Amp's but from what I can tell it looks good. I just don't like THD above .05%.

THD its Total Harmonic Distortion. The lower the % the cleaner the sound should be.

When I had my Type-R's they were in a ported box with about 3 1/2 cubes of air.

here is a explination of what THD is... Wiki
