Help installing a remote starter/keyless entry or programing remote

Like most cobalt owners, my keyless entry remote does not work. So instead of buying a new remote for $40 and having it programmed for $50, i thought i would maybe try to install a nice aftermarket one myself for around $150. I really don't know the first place to start but i can't imagine it being all that hard. I've always wired up all my stereo stuff, so i know the basics. My second option is that amazon has stock cobalt remotes that have the remote start button on them, what would i need to do to get that to work on my cobalt ss that doesn't have remote start?
I heard that our remotes have to be programmed through the obd2 port with some scanner. I have a obd2 to bluetooth adapter. Are there any programs that you guys know of that i can use to program the key for myself?

Thanks for any help

Remote is $15 on ebay...

Programming should be complimentary at your local dealer. I know mine did it for free.

A Tech2 or similar.. My locksmith has a Tech2 and another device, which I don't know the name of but is probably just as expensive, to do FOB programmings.

A lot of times it's not in the title of the listing... You need to take apart your broken remote and verify the part number etc. GM used a lot of the same remotes across different models/trims.

IF your dealer wants to charge you. A lot of times they want you to come back for other services, so they won't charge you for something as little as that (literally took my dealer 5 minutes, he didn't charge me anything when I came in with two remotes a while back for my HHR before I sold it)

It's at service adviser's discretion, and GM dealers in my area are pretty cool about that.

Not necessarily, Gelladuga69... If you look up instructions for programming remotes for GM, there is a way to program additional keys and remotes, but only if you already have a couple of working/programmed ones. Good idea to do once you have a couple of properly working remotes, especially if your dealer DOES charge you.

My remote stopped working too. Take it apart and check the battery solder. Also put little pieces of tin foil (I used aluminum tape) under the rubber button part. The coating that makes them conductive wears out and the remote stops responding. Works perfect now like brand new

This is what happened to me, the battery holder broke and it was a long shot at fixing it and i messed it up even worse because my soldering gun is the size of my car....

My part number is 22733523. Would that remote still work for mine?

I bought my remote at the dealer and the guy said he would do it for a tip. I gave him $10. I think the remote was $60.
