Help: reverse lights aren't coming on.

An annoying problem has come to my attention; when I'm in reverse gear, the back up lights on my 2005 Cobalt coupe will not come on. I checked the fuse (labeled "back up" I believe) and it is fine. It seems highly unlikely both bulbs would burn out simultaneously.

I installed a TWM Performance shifter several months ago, but because it connects to the unmolested linkage, I doubt this could have been a factor.

I'm out of warranty and would rather avoid the dealership.

Any insight onto what the problem could be?

Try another fuse and see if that does it, probably wont but try. Have you looked at the bulbs to see if thay are still good? If you have a meter test for voltage at the lights then go the the switch and see if you have voltage there.

I replaced the fuse, that didn't work. I don't have a multimeter, but the third brake light does come on, so that cable leading to the lights is working, I suppose.

Anymore information on the switch, how to get to it, and most importantly, what to do with it?

Thanks Marca34, it's good to know someone with the same problem could fix it themselves.

Where on the tranny is the switch located? Will I have to go underneath the car, or inside the center console around the shifter?

What does it look like? Is it labeled; will I know what it is?

I had to take the fuse box out and its on top of the tranny. idk if you can get to it by jacking the car up.
