high performance alternators for a serious sound system
dont know of any high performance alternators for our cars but you could always have the stock one rewound or install a second alt. Someone on here did that, he removed the A/C unit and put in another alt for more power for the system. Can't remember what his s/n was tho.
lol ill answer any questions you have on it but ultimatly it was a pain the ass and still could use some work if u know what i mean. And the guy i had do it for me is awesome and we barely got it working. Not for the light hearted my friend
i didnt take out my a/c thou... **** that

yeah i honestly dont think i would be willing to put all the work in to throw in another alternator... do you have any suggestions other than alternators? as in would you recommend throwing in another battery or even just changing the current battery to a kinetik?
ill tell you ultimately what im planning on doing...
im looking to put in:
2 - mtx t9510-04 or the t9512-04 (the single vc model) havent decideds 10's or 12's yet
1 - mtx te4001D monoblock amp
1 - mtx txc6.1 components
1 - mtx te1004 4 channel amp
1 - mtx txc6.0
1 - mtx te602 2 channel amp
of course this is the end goal... whether or not this happens is the question but im def considering it...
so i would need a damn good alternator and im assuming a few batteries? but what would you suggest?

yes you would want a upgraded alt and probably 2 batteries but finding the upgraded alt is going to be the issue. I know the LSJ alt is bullshit and there will probably never be a mass marketed high output alt but no idea on the LNF.
With that end goal your going to want to try and get every electrical component as good as possible and you may be ok with the stock alt. real 1/0, 2 batteries and the big 3 upgrade is what i would recommend

sorry im new to the forum lingo... real 1/0 - are you talkin real 0 gauge 100% copper wire? and whats the big 3 upgrade?...
also what batteries would you recommend... ive researched a few batteries... the kinetik 16v and the optima yellowtop seem to be the best around? any other brands i should check out?

that's cool
1/0 is thicker then 0 guage but they are often called the same thing. most "0 guage" audio wire is 1/0.
regarding batteries if your thinking of getting the optima i would go with the carquest NGT extreme its very similar to the yellow top and close to half the cost.
otherwise both kinetik and powermaster make good agm batteries. You're going to want a 12v battery thou not a 16v

you can always get one rewound or made persay if you send in to a company to get done
also mind you the 2.0, 2.2 and 2.4 all have different alts. I'm pretty sure the LSJ doesnt have any HO alts you can buy and pretty sure its going to stay that way indefinitely... the rest your going to have to research and find out
check out ohio generators

U should be able to take your alt. down to any alt. shop in your area and have it rewound it is really not that much money to do. I dont knkow how much room they have to work in the cobalt alt. but i know that i have had some alts rewound to around 220 amps with was more then triple what is was to start and it only cost around 150 or 175
keep in mind if you do that u should be fine with an upgraded battery and one extra. the system your running is really not much power compared to running 3 amps for subs and 2 amps for mids and highs. and I only have 3 batterys in my truck including the front battery.
someone needs to start making them
i can't really put in a system till i have one. i think my **** is gonna be pushin almsot 8000watts
i guess i could just do door speakers with midbass and tweeters and amp for those and not put in the 2 12'' 3000watt a piece subs untill i can get the alt problem fixed

8000 watts eh?
i dont know how much i really trust that. what alt was it and what level was it stock. to really get something 200+ you need the size of a gm lage case or ford large case. for a truck that can fit em or come with one stock no problem but your not really going to get that out of a small car alt

maybe i'll just leave my jump starter in the trunk so everytime i need to crank the car i can just jump it off. LOL!
i don't think remote start works with a dead batter
lol
not to mention i'll be pissing ppl off with my strobe light car lmao

well trust me it was big enogh if was off my chevy 350 motor. out of a full size car and i had it for 3 years before i sold it. I dont know what u know about alts. but i dont know much just a few things i have learned doing audio. but that alt. was tested once at advance auto parts and i read off the carts on there tester and the guy got pissed and said that thing can mess my tester up. I think he was full of crap on that part but it did not have any problems keeping up with any system that i ever put in that car.
what are you gonna be running that you really need to have 8000 watts in a cobalt??? and if only six of its going to subs then u must have some super insides to handle the other 2000

)) he he... i haven't really decided on the innerds. i like the excelion components. put out 300 a piece... but i can't remember if the cobalt has 6x9z or anything... don't remember where they would be either... anyways. it's proly gon be 4 component sets. at 300 a piece. and if it has spots for 6x9 to be put in. which is does. i just don't remember if it came stock with spots for them. the 6x9z will be 400 a piece.. prolly 2 of those.
it won't be running at 8000 all the time. that's mad. prolly like 2000 lol. actually prolly like 1000-1500
just extra power for ***** and giggles. in case i'm in the mood for some whitney houston. i can blast that through town lmao!!
