How Do you Use Wire Taps?

How Do you Use Wire Taps?

looking to install b&m shiftplus, but i honestly dont know how to use wire taps without cutting into the wires.. any help i wud appreciate.. thanks

The wire taps Ive used work this way.......They're actually called a tap splice. you take the wire you want to tap into and place it in the slot that runs all the way through the tap slice. Then you take the wire you want to hook up and place it in the other slot (the one that dosent go all the way through). You then take a pair of pliers and mash down the metal splice sticking out the top and seal the splice. I'll post of pic of what I'm talking about.

Wire taps dont cut straight through the wire...

your talkin about the Clamps that come with the Shiftplus right?

It is my opinion and many others that wire taps are junk. Really not a very good connection. I recommend cutting, splicing and soldering for a proper connection.

I agree. Soldering is best for quality................if u know how to do it correctly.

yeah dont use those.. thats about the worst connection you could ever get... military splice it or solder it...

u keep charging money *******... plus if u solder, what about if u want to take shiftplus off ?

You cut the wire and re-solder the original connection. Your gonna have to do that anyway if you ever want to take it off and still have a GOOD connection in the original wiring. Tap splices dont hold together very well over time. Especially in a hot enviorment like the engine compartment.

you can just use butt connectors those little barrels they hold fine without sauder considering you have a good crimp.. It like welding your down pipe on after bolting it up
