How to use empty fuse slots in BCM???

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone could help me with explaining how to use the empty fuse slots on the BCM. I want to add some extra lighting (not neon stuff lol) and want to do it right, not always splicing and possibly overload a system. Do you have to wire into the red wiring harness on the BCM and if so does anyone have the pinout/wiring diagrams for it? I will want the light to always have power going to it, even with the car off, just have to turn it on. I have a 2009 Cobalt SS. I have looked and looked and can not find anything.... Thanks

*EDIT* Think going the add a circuit route is the best way. Which fuse should I add to that always constantly has power? even with the car off?

post is a better spot for stuff under the hood. just remember you would need to put your own fuse

Ya I don't want to wire into the engine bay and use the post... Ideally I would love to be able to pin into the red wiring harness thing under the fuses and use an empty slot but don't know exactly how all that wires up. Could not find a diagram at all.

there are a few spots for bigger 40 amp and 60 amp fuses in the under hood fuse box, a few of them have no fuse in them and the 2 pins are just the right size to use a female spade connector.

what exactly are u wanted to install that ull be worried about overloading the wire? what kind of lighting are u installing? even with using a empty fuse location, ur still gonna have to either splice into a power wire to get power or ur gonna have to connect to post on under hood fuse box. just putting wires into an empty fuse location wont give u power it has to be connected to power some where, so make it easy on yourself and just use a mini circuit connector on something that isn't powering a lot.

just adding some lighting to the inside, can't see anything at night! just using the add a circuit option. I saw all the empty fuse slots on the bcm and was wondering if those could easily be utilized. no worries, got it figured! thanks

I'm interested in this as well. Before I wrecked my ss I wanted to try adding some door handle lights and the ones that come on to shine light where you step to open the door. Post up some pics of what you do

will do, but it probably won't be completed for like 6-7 months yet lol

living away from home = no tools

and will be heading to the UK for 4 months in May so won't have my car for that time. Just here planning and getting everything figured out before I dive in. In the end I will be adding a dome light, lights in the footwells that turn on when the doors open and can operate off the switch in the dome light. And possibly some "puddle/courtesy" lights that light up the ground when the door opens. Just need to decide whether to put them under the door panel or in the mirror.

hey should have said u were adding lighting to begin with, I added 2 led strips and connected them to the wire that controls the lights when the door opens, plus threw a switch in there for when I want it on. worked awesome.

I use an Add-a-Fuse for a simple and clean installation
