Increasing factory 10" sub volume?

I just installed my 7130 panasonic h/u in my cobalt. It sounds great, nice highs, louder, very close to stock. Except for one thing, the sub. It almost sounds like it is not there anymore. I do know it is working, but it definatly is not as loud. If you turn the bass up on the stereo, the speakers distort quicker. I was thinking of putting bass blockers on the door speakers with a 150hz cutoff @6 db/octave. Then when I turn the bass up, maybe the sub will be affected more.

Anyone here having the same problem? Maybe it is my h/u. Anyone with other brands chime in.

Thanks.

Not a big fan of the Panasonic head units and I'm not sure what features they have. In order to reduce the distortion in the speakers see if there is a high pass crossover setting in the actual headunit. If there is turn it all the way up and it should take care of it. If it is anything like a Pioneer HU then it might have a option on the audio settings menu. Your best bet is to just scrap the stock sub and get an aftermarket sub and amp then even if you don't have that crossover setting on your HU you should have one on the amp. You can also play with the gain to get more sound out of your sub.

Go Pioneer, Alpine, or Clarion. Eclipese is good too. there are many good decks but the big manufactures still produce low end stuff. You have to pay good money for a good H/U. I don't mind stock but would like better for other options. I personally dont know why anyone would change the H/U unless it is an insanely much better quallity. If your not going to upgrade to DVD then stay stock. It works very well. As you have learned the hard way.

Alpine all the way. With alpine you dont realy need to put a cross-over (bass blocker) on your door speakers you can adjust each speakers cross over thru the h/u.

I put a h/u in to play an ipod in the car.

I dont want to have to put in an aftermarket sub/amp combo as I have done that in the past and dont want to do it again.

The h/u does not have a x-over, so should changing the h/u make a difference?

Changing the h/u will make a diff. because the factory head unit had and internal cross over and amp that puts out diff. than the one that you put in.

right, the factory unit powers the sub differently than aftermarket. if you want to be neat about it, I'd get a small sub amp and a 4ohm sub. just put them in the factory locale. its not as simple as stock, but it'll work. ooooor... just get a hardwired rf modulator and have a minijack in the glove box to plug the ipod into.

Or you could put your stock radio back in and do what I did and get a 20 doller FM modulater and do it that way.

Works great and My car still looks stock when i take it to the dealer.

I have had the FM modulators before and I dont like them. I would have loved to have the PAC interface that controls the ipod from the factory h/u.
