Increasing factory 10" sub volume?

I just installed my 7130 panasonic h/u in my cobalt. It sounds great, nice highs, louder, very close to stock. Except for one thing, the sub. It almost sounds like it is not there anymore. I do know it is working, but it definatly is not as loud. If you turn the bass up on the stereo, the speakers distort quicker. I was thinking of putting bass blockers on the door speakers with a 150hz cutoff @6 db/octave. Then when I turn the bass up, maybe the sub will be affected more.

Anyone here having the same problem? Maybe it is my h/u. Anyone with other brands chime in.

Thanks.

Step 1: Tear out sub
Step 2: Purchase JL Audio 12w7 and JL Slash 1000/1
Step 3: Install 12w7 and Slash 1000/1

After reading a couple of posts about this and other peopel saying the same thing I am starting to think that when you hook up your after market H/U you are now bipassing your factory amp. THis isn't all the uncomon in cars that have factory installed amps what they are propriatary (SP?) to the factory source unit. When you get one of those wiring harnesses the clips work out but all of the wiring to the amp is disabled. You could try to probe the wires comming into your factory amp with a DMM and see if it is getting a signal into it.

Another thing you could do is buy a small amp (you only need some where between 250-400, I have seen different numbers for the sub advertised) and just install that. This way you would have your fading, boosting, and gain capabilities. Wiring would be pretty cheap. millionbuy.com is having a blowout sale on some pheonix gold RCAs, and then you only need like 5 feet of power line/ground line and a fuse holder (8 g would work fine for a small amp).

Ehh, I did not want to have to put another amp in place of this one.

How about the Bass blocker idea? I think it may work.
