Installed Infinity 12" and 600w Amp

Hello,

I just got done installing a new Reference 1600a Infinity Amp (600w mono) and an Infinity 12 inch sub in enclosure with max 300 watt RMS at 2 ohms.

Anyways I used a Line out converter and hooked it up to the left rear speaker. Everything was working great but now the sub stopped working and then it would come on and sounds like static and is barely hitting but it is still hitting. Not hard at all though.

Did I do something wrong? The amp has power and all the connections appear to be good. Any suggestions are appreciated.

I agree that your sub might be blown. I had this issue 2 times with different subs. I had a RF sub where the voice coil blew (I had it overpowered by about 100w), and it never worked. The 2nd time I had this issue, I (foolishly) didn't solder the wiring on the inside of my enclosure, and it came loose and would vibrate and make sporadic connections with the sub, and I'd get crackles, quiet sound, and pops. I reconnected the wire, soldered it down, and all is well again!

I would 1st check the protection light on your sub...if that light is on, then your issue is in your wiring (you're shorting it somewhere most likely). Retrace all your wires, and check your fuse's to make sure they aren't toast. If that light isn't on ever, then it's your sub. Check the connections from your amp to the sub, and you'll probably have to take the sub out. If all the connections are solid and fine, then you've blown the sub.

My bet is that you blew the sub, considering you're overpowering the sub by 300w (1x over it's max power). You could have very easily blown it by turning up the volume too high. I blew one sub throwing 0.5x over it's max power at it.

Good choice in equipment btw! I run an Infinity REF 1262W reference sub on a JBL GTO 301.1 II mono amp. Beautiful sound, it's amazing!
