Installing Aftermarket Headunit
Installing Aftermarket Headunit
I went to an audio store, and the guy brought me out this wiring kit that was $75. He said that in cobalts you have to still have your stock headunit plugged in, (hide it in trunk or something, the wiring kit had alot of wire) Then put your aftermarket deck in as you normally would.
Me being a cheap-ass, I just bought a Line Output Converter, and am using the factory head unit.
Is this $75 thing actually genuine? Or can you just get a normal $12 connector like you'd get for any other car?

depends on which stereo system you have. if you have the pioneer system you will need the expensive harness. now i haven't seen or heard of anyone having to keep their stock headunit plugged in to install and aftermarket one so would question this guys knowledge. but i could be wrong.
you only need an expensive wiring kit if you have a 07 or 08. As for relocating the radio, there are no relocation harnesses out there to my knowledge. When you take out your stock radio (if it is a 07/08) you will loose your door chimes, signal light ticks and anything that makes noise pretty much.
here is a faq all about this.
