ipod charger on non usb radio?
I bought a AV composite cable for my ipod touch to play videos on my Sony radio. The thing is to use his cable I have to get rid of my ipods charger because it connects where the charger goes because it also has a USB end. I plan to install this without all the wires showing but my radio does not have a USB port for the USB connector to charger my iPod. How can I get it to charge my iPod with out USB port? Are there any cables to convert USB to RCA and charge or any other connector? I'm wondering because my iPod has to be on the charger or it will shut off because the battery is messed up. Any advice will be appreciated.

If I'm not mistaken, AV cables don't transmit power. You'd have to plug the USB end into something for power. USB cig lighter ect. Someone will have to verify as I'm not 100% sure. But my radio has a USB cable, and I have the same cables as you. Plug the AV in, and the USB.

Maybe. I'm not 100% sure on that. The USB plug on the cord is for power, and ipod controls for radios that support it. So I'd assume you could plug it into the cig lighter for power.

Where do you plan to put he iPod while it's plugged in to play videos and charge? If you wanna hide it by putting it in the cubby hole where the trunk button is ( or the glove box, same thing) then this one is an easy fix.
Find a cig lighter power outlet at an autoparts store of your choice. Walmart should have them, and probably tons of other stores. Tap it into the circuit for the other power outlets in the car but do it behind all the dash trim and whatnot. Put an inline fuse holder in there as well to protect stuff from frying. Use some good connectors to splice all the wiring to make sure it lasts.
After that just grab a small cig lighter USB charger and plug it into the new outlet that will be hidden inside the dash, and run the USB cable end from your AV cable and plug the USB into the charger. Plug the RCAs into your deck then run the wire through the dash to your chosen location for the iPod.
Ding fries are done!

Glad it worked out. Having a deck with a USB port makes this a lot easier to do, but this is the next best thing. Since I put in an 09 stock deck with a USB port in my 07, I did something similar, but my iPod dock is now my armrest. Works great, just gotta be careful with my arm if its sweaty, or it'll pull the iPod out of the socket lol.

Haha I wanted to make a dock but there just isn't any good place to put in in my car :/ I wanted something similar to the 2010 mustang has the aux cable. There's a cover by he armrests the slides open to reveal the aux cable. At least I think that's how it was. My ex's dad had one so I remember when we would borrow the car lol
