Just installed alpine headunit and having problems
This is my first post, and so far this forum has been an excellent help!
I just got my cobalt (2008 LT sedan without onstar or pioneer) about 2 weeks ago and I had the system I pulled from my old car. So I ordered the cheap wire harness (metra 70-2104, and lost chimes of course, but it doesnt bother me), and hooked that up to my alpine (unit is a cda 9884) wire harness. The only trouble i have here is that my illumination wire for my alpine unit isnt functioning, i have it hooked up to what is supposed to be the illumination for the metra harness (orange, i think) but the unit wont dim. This isnt so much of a problem, but I am wondering if it could possibly cause problems?
The big problem that i am having is that, after installing my subs today (it became noticeable), whenever i touch a metal part of my aux in cord for my head unit, i get a really loud buzz which i never got with the same system in my old car... I though it might be a bad ground or a wire touching or something, so i taped EVERYTHING up with electrical tape and that didnt fix the problem. also, whenever i turn the unit up to 18 or higher, it cuts the sound and sounds like shitty laptop speakers and shuts my subs off too. This just started happening since i hooked up the remote and rca's for my subs... it didnt happen before today and i just hooked it all up today. so i am not sure what is going on here. any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
p.s.: it only happens when i am using the aux in. when i am using a cd or the radio everything is just fine so the subs arent vibrating anything loose?
Thanks for the help guys
