lightweight alt pulley?

i was reading about a lightweight alternator pulley that MRZ sells to increase HP or w/e but im wondering if a lighter pulley would allow the alt to pump out a few extra amps? seems like it would...

anyone know?

an alternator has built-in circuitry to regulate the power it's putting out based on the demand. if you are reaching the peak output of the alternator, you aren't going to squeeze any more out of it in any way.

lightening the pulley is probably not going to make much difference either. load on the engine comes mostly from the alternator generating electricity, and not from the inertia of the pulley.

same idea with removing the A/C compressor. when the compressor is off, the pulley freewheels on the compressor shaft, so there's really no load on the engine. the compressor should turn off when you go WOT also, so there's no load there. removing the A/C compressor will only save you weight.

if u get an "underdrive" pully it will adjust the curve at which the amperage is "peaked" sorta like a supercharger but overall you dont get any extra amperage

lightweight pulley would have no positive effect on the electrical system. ive debated an under drive alt and crank pulley but not sure i would loose enough to make it worth my while and i don't have access to super awesome welding anymore so

if you "underdrive" the pulley, then the alternator will spin more slowly than if you weren't underdriving it. so your output is lessened.

no, underdrive is the smaller one and will make your alt spin slower lessening the output...overdrive would be a bigger one and would make it take more hp from the engine and give you more to the alt pulley
