locked radio

ok..so i redid the trim inside my 06 ss/sc ... in the process i swapped my silver stock head unit for a black head unit from an 05 ss.. now it is locked and the dealer wants 88 ****** dollars to simply unlock it.. is there a way that i can unlock it myself? or if someone local can help me im willing to drive a little to solve the problem...also.. the guy said he wasnt sure if it would even work since its an 05 going into an 06 car..will it work for sure? thanx

yes it will work but if you have both radios you can just swap the "face" and keep the color you want

This is kinda like what I did. I have the base LS and bought the upgraded stereo, had it reprogrammed by the dealer, then swapped the face back to the black for a finished look. It's the upgraded stereo, just looks bone stock!
