Looking for a new sub.
I've been out of the Audio world for a long time now. My last system I had was Kicker KX components, Kicker Comp vr2's with a JL 500 and a 340 for the components. A farad cap and the other misc. crap.
Now, I don't want that again. It was loud. Very... very loud. However, it sounded like ****.
Basically... I'm old enough to not need the music loud enough to hear twelve blocks away. I'm happy with the stock speakers, but would like more range with my sub. I don't need it much louder than the stock, but again.. I want it to pick up the low range successfully.
Where in the world do I start. I don't want something like the JL 12w3, that's too loud. I refuse to ever buy Kicker again. Maybe a decent 10?
What about amps? Good quality ones that'll give me a good range?
I'd like to do this on the cheap, as it is not a huge concern of mine, I'm not willing to drop 3,000 dollars on my system like I previously was.
Advice is appreciated.

get an alpine type S matched with like a 300rms alpine amp. lost cost, high quality, i have personally heard a single 10" type s in a sealed enclosure and loved it. and it will pick up the low frequencies nicely.
shameless self plug...

I was looking into the JL 10w6 last night, but that may be too loud. I could always turn it down though. I'll give the Type-S some research.
it seems to me that a sub turned way down always sounds like ****, better to find one that is doing what you want in it's happy zone.
