metal bracket behind stereo

what the hell was gm thinking???????????????? that damn metal bracket is going to be the death of me.. must it be cut????i need like 1.5 inches more of clearance. damn it to hell.can i beat it in with a hammer?? whats the best way to deal with this issue?

got it.. cut plastic piece after removing the bolts then remove bracket.. i still am unsure where the bracket screws are at..

the screws are on the far left and far right. there's 3-4 7mm bolts

yeah i had 3 bolts 2 left 1 right. i bent the crap out of the bar to help me get to them. just call me bloody knux i wore no gloves. lord have mercy.. that was the hardest install i have ever done aside from an install or two without a wiring harness. although now i could do it in 20 minutes. what the hell is up with these new cars. they really dont want you to swap out the stock stereo.

also if you drop a bolt or something while performing this surgery the best way to find it is to remove the cup holders, it should be in there somewhere! now i have crossovers YAY!!!!!!!!!!!

Are u talking about the metal bracket on the left and right sides with a hole in each one? It would be good to get rid of them because my AVIC-F700 barely has room to breathe.

no i wouldn't mess with those. ur hu shouldn't need to breathe much

they are talking about the metal bracket in the back that prevents some units from fitting flush. its used to hold the back of the stock radio in

O ok thanks. Il take a look to see if mine is still there. Maybe my installer already removed it.

If you remove the bracket....you would also have to cut the plastic for the console that is bolted to it using 3 screws.
Does it affect the integrity of the console or dash too much with it removed? I could really benifit from rippin it out.

nope it doesnt affect the integrity.. you cant see it at all.
